To date, most higher education institutions have planned and announced Tet bonuses for their faculty and staff. At the Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture, each faculty member and staff member received a stable bonus similar to last year, with a minimum of 55 million VND per person. The University of Foreign Languages (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) awarded Tet bonuses to its faculty and staff ranging from a minimum of nearly 30 million VND to a maximum of 70 million VND. Notably, contracted lecturers also receive benefits based on performance evaluations, encouraging dedication and ensuring equal opportunities and fair treatment.

The University of Transport and Communications distributes welfare benefits to each staff member and lecturer, averaging over 20-22 million VND, equivalent to last year's level, along with additional income in the form of a 13th-month salary in 2024, depending on the coefficient and position of each individual, ranging from 5-7 million VND.

Meanwhile, some universities are applying a uniform Tet bonus for all staff, employees, and school leaders who have worked for one year or more, regardless of title, position, or qualifications. For example, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade awarded a Tet bonus of 25 million VND per person. In contrast, the University of Finance and Marketing stated that this year, all staff and lecturers will receive the same bonus of 7.5 million VND per person, a fixed amount for many years.

For the general education sector, many schools nationwide have completed the payment of Tet (Lunar New Year) bonuses for 2025 according to Decree 73. The Ho Chi Minh City Education Union reported that the highest Tet bonus in the city's education sector belonged to a foreign direct investment (FDI) unit, exceeding 100 million VND, while the lowest bonus from the same unit was approximately 4.3 million VND. In the private sector, 89 out of 104 units awarded Tet bonuses, with the highest being over 28 million VND per person and the lowest 300,000 VND. For public schools, according to the city's specific policy, teachers in Ho Chi Minh City received additional income in the fourth quarter and Tet gifts. In addition, they received a share from the school's budget surplus for the year and a year-end bonus according to Decree 73. It is expected that each teacher will receive an additional 4-7 million VND.

In Hanoi, many teachers were delighted to receive Tet bonuses according to Decree 73. Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Hong, Principal of Chuong Duong Secondary School (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi), reported that this year the school received approximately 400 million VND in bonus funds, equivalent to 10% of the salaries of 56 teachers for six months. The school evaluates teachers using a monthly scoring system. The average monthly score is compiled to determine rankings quarterly, semesterly, or annually. Based on internal spending regulations and evaluation criteria, the school uses a bonus coefficient of 1, 2, and 2.5, multiplied by the base salary. Approximately 10 teachers were rated excellent, receiving 5.85 million VND, while the rest received nearly 4.7 million VND for good performance.

Thanh Cong B Primary School (Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) received a total bonus of over 300 million VND, distributed equally among 66 employees. The school bases regular bonuses on the performance of salaried employees. Extraordinary bonuses are awarded to individuals with truly outstanding achievements and a significant positive impact on the school's performance.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tung, Principal of M.V. Lomonosov Secondary and High School (Hanoi), said that the average Tet bonus for teachers at the school is 22 million VND per person, with the highest amount exceeding 35 million VND. This bonus is based on one month's salary, calculated as the average income over the 12 months of 2024.

According to Decree 73, if an agency or unit has not used up its bonus fund for the year by January 31st of the following year, it is not allowed to transfer the remaining funds to the bonus fund for the following year. This means that by January 31st, localities must complete the payment of bonuses for 2024 to officials, civil servants, and public employees, including teachers. Although compared to many other professions in society, and even compared to teachers in other schools and localities, the bonus amount for many officials and teachers is quite modest, it still represents recognition of their efforts and dedication to their work.
