Coffee crop year 2023-2024: Ensuring the rate of ripe coffee picked is over 85%

The Provincial People's Committee has just issued a Directive to ensure high efficiency in coffee production, harvesting, processing and consumption in the 2023-2024 crop year.

Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to direct relevant departments, offices, People's Committees of communes, wards and towns, organizations and individuals producing and trading coffee in the area to make plans and strengthen the work of strictly protecting the coffee area ready for harvest; strengthen propaganda and mobilize organizations and individuals not to harvest green coffee, ensuring that the rate of ripe coffee when picked is over 85% (in the case of late-season harvesting, the minimum rate of ripe coffee is 80%). At the same time, take strict measures to handle cases of harvesting and trading of young coffee; instruct people to prepare drying yards and dryers in case of prolonged rain during the harvest period affecting the quality of coffee.

The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to proactively coordinate with the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to organize propaganda and guide the implementation of the Coffee Industry Management Software Plan; organize the assessment of the results of coffee replanting, review and adjust the replanting plan; coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade and localities in controlling the quality of coffee to ensure food safety before it is sold in the markets...

The Department of Industry and Trade strengthens inspection and examination to promptly detect and handle acts of commercial fraud in purchasing, processing and consuming coffee; propagates and encourages organizations and individuals producing and trading coffee to invest in innovation in processing and preservation technology to ensure the quality of coffee after harvest; regularly monitors prices and forecasts market developments to provide timely information; proactively advises and proposes to the Provincial People's Committee to take appropriate measures when the coffee market has unusual fluctuations to limit damage to farmers and businesses in the province; regularly promotes the consumption of agricultural products with provinces and cities across the country, creating favorable conditions for the province's coffee consumption promotion in the 2023-2024 crop year...

The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Provincial Police to direct professional units, police of districts, towns and cities to closely coordinate with the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities and related units in developing and implementing plans to protect coffee; strictly handle cases of coffee theft and subjects who illegally organize intermediary transactions causing damage to farmers and businesses.

Propose that Dak Lak Market Management Department strengthen inspection and supervision of coffee purchasing and consumption activities; prevent and promptly handle acts of price gouging and weight gouging for profit.

Propose that the State Bank of Vietnam, Dak Lak Branch, direct commercial banks and credit institutions in the province to continue to prioritize capital sources for organizations and individuals participating in the production, purchase, processing and export of coffee in the 2023-2024 crop year, especially loans to invest in coffee replanting, investment in processing machinery and equipment, wastewater treatment systems; support interest rates for loans for businesses investing in renovating technological equipment under the direction of the Central Government and the province to ensure the set goals and plans.
