Ninh Binh reduces subjects for 10th grade entrance exam

Ninh Binh 's 2024 10th grade entrance exam includes Math, Literature and a subject to be announced later, two subjects less than last year.

According to the 10th grade enrollment plan announced by the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee on December 7, candidates will take the Literature and Math exams in 120 minutes in the form of multiple-choice and essay tests. The third subject, candidates will take a 60-minute multiple-choice test, selected from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography and English. The Departmentof Education and Training will announce the third exam subject on March 1, 2024.

Candidates applying to Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted will take an additional specialized subject exam. The 10th grade exam in Ninh Binh is expected to be held in June 2024.

Thus, compared to the 2023 plan, the announcement of the exam subjects is 45 days earlier. English may also no longer be a compulsory subject if the Department does not choose it, unlike last year. The total number of exam subjects has also decreased by two subjects.

Previously, along with Hung Yen and Vinh Phuc, Ninh Binh was the locality that organized the 10th grade entrance exam with the most subjects in the country. The province's 10th grade entrance exam in recent years consisted of three tests: Math, Literature and Combination. The combination test consisted of three subjects: English, Natural Science (randomly choosing one of the three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Social Science (choosing one of the three subjects: History, Geography, Civic Education). In 2023, the combination test consisted of English, Physics and Geography. Of which, the English score accounted for 60%, the remaining two subjects each accounted for 20% of the combination test score.

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, public grade 10 enrollment is assigned to localities. The Department of Education and Training is the advisory body, submitting to the People's Committee of the province or city for approval of the number of subjects, form of examination or admission.

Every year, provinces and cities often organize a "two-in-one" exam, which means using 2-3 common subjects (Math, Literature and English) to enroll in non-specialized public grade 10 schools. Candidates who take the specialized school exam only have to take the corresponding specialized subject test.

This year, most localities will test three subjects: Math, Literature, English, some provinces such as Vinh Phuc, Ninh Binh, Hung Yen will use a combination test, including English and some other subjects. A few provinces such as Dong Thap, Gia Lai, Lam Dong will consider the school records.

In the 2023-2024 school year plan, the Ministry requires localities to consider recognizing junior high school graduation for students before June 30 and complete primary school enrollment before July 31.
