Social argumentation is one of two contents of the Writing section of the Literature exam, high school graduation exam.
From 2015 to 2024, the social argumentation question has a lower score weight than the literary argumentation question.
But starting this year, social commentary is the main writing section, worth 4/10 points. While the literary commentary is worth only 2/10.
That is the reason why social argumentation receives great attention from candidates.

Social discussion topics in the past 10 years have mainly focused on the lifestyle and attitudes of young people.
In 2015, the first year the graduation exam and university entrance exam were combined into one, the literature exam had a structure of 2 parts: Reading comprehension (3 points) and Writing (7 points).
In which, the social argument and literary argument have approximately the same number of points, 3 points and 4 points respectively.
The 2015 social essay requirement requires candidates to write a 600-word essay expressing their thoughts on the idea: "Practicing life skills is as necessary as accumulating knowledge."
In 2016, the topic asked candidates to discuss the idea: "Cowardice makes people lose themselves, but courage helps them be themselves."
Since 2017, the structure of the literature exam has changed. The social essay question has decreased from 3 to 2 points. The literary essay question has increased from 4 to 5 points.
In which, the social argumentation topic will require candidates to discuss a content given by the Reading Comprehension material.
The social essay question of 2017 is to write a 200-word paragraph presenting your thoughts on the meaning of empathy in life, based on the text extracted from the work Good, Evil and Smartphone by author Dang Hoang Giang.
In 2018, candidates must present their thoughts on the mission of awakening the country's potential in each individual's life.
In 2019, candidates wrote a paragraph about human willpower in life.
In 2020, the topic asked for discussion on the need to appreciate life every day.
In 2021, candidates wrote about the need to know how to live a life of dedication.
In 2022, the issue to be discussed is the responsibility of the younger generation in following in the footsteps of previous generations.
In 2023, candidates expressed their views on the need to balance emotions in life.
In 2024, candidates wrote about the meaning of respecting individuality.
This morning, more than 1.16 million candidates nationwide entered the first exam of the 2025 high school graduation exam.
This year's exam will have two types of questions for two groups of candidates: the old GeneralEducation program and the current program. Therefore, the exam will have two different essay topics.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training , the number of candidates registering for the literature exam according to the old program is 19,403.
