Yen Bai city was devastated by the impact of Typhoon Yagi. Yagi was the strongest typhoon in the East Sea in the past 30 years and the strongest on the Vietnamese mainland in the past 70 years, with a long duration, strong destructive power and heavy impact on most northern provinces.
After the storm, many localities are still recovering from the damage. For many weeks, people have been cleaning up after their houses, furniture, belongings and goods were damaged by the storm and flood.
The storm hit right at the beginning of the new school year. Nearly a week after the storm and flood passed, teachers and students at Kim Dong Primary School in Yen Bai City were able to return to class because the school had been flooded up to nearly 3 meters deep. All teaching aids and equipment in the school were also damaged and unusable.
The central market area of Tran Yen district (Yen Bai province) was flooded up to nearly 2m, with trash and mud up to more than 1m.
"Every day, hundreds of people have to clean, sweep, and pull out the mud. It takes 6-7 days of continuous work for the road to be like this. In some places, the mud is still 20-30cm high," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan (living on Song Thao Street, Tran Yen District), pointing to the road around the market.
Ms. Loan added: "In my whole life, I have never seen a flood as big and deep as this one. Near the river, inside there are 2 houses with only old people over 70 years old and over 80 years old living alone. That day, the house was flooded up to the 2nd floor, they couldn't get out, they waved their hands and called for people to come and rescue them."
Joining hands with the call of the Government and people nationwide, more than 550,000 nutritional products (worth nearly 3 billion VND) have been supported by Vinamilk to people in 11 provinces and cities affected by storms and floods, including Hanoi, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Son La, Cao Bang, Hung Yen, Vinh Phuc , Tuyen Quang, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh, Lao Cai.
Vinamilk prioritizes supporting nutritional products for students. Following this, the company is also implementing the program "Overcoming natural disasters - Stepping forward to the future" with the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. It is expected that 3 billion VND worth of nutritional products will be supported by the community and Vinamilk staff; and an additional 3 billion VND of Vinamilk products will be contributed and given to children and students in difficult circumstances in provinces affected by storms and floods.
In Tran Yen district, Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province, people, volunteer forces and officers and soldiers of Battalion 5, Regiment 148, Division 316, Military Region 2, have been working hard to overcome the consequences of storms and floods for many days.
Vinamilk brings milk and drinking water to people and forces on duty to overcome the consequences of storms and floods.
"Only when we go to places affected by storms and floods can we feel the severe devastation of natural disasters and the loss of people. But even in such difficult circumstances, we can see the warmth of human love. Participating in supporting people in flood-affected areas, my colleagues and I personally want to contribute more to the company's community activities," said Mr. Ta Xuan Tuan, Northern Sales Director, Vinamilk.
Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen, a driver at Vinamilk's Hanoi Logistics Enterprise, confided that he had made countless trips to support flooded areas in Hanoi, or to Thai Nguyen and Yen Bai. The truck leaves at 5am in the morning, returns to the warehouse late at night and continues unloading goods so that he can depart again the next morning. "Although it is more difficult than my usual work, I feel proud to contribute my efforts, helping the company to help our compatriots and carry out charity activities," Tuyen said.
More than 3,500 gifts including milk, water, cakes, etc. were prepared by Vinamilk employees during the day and delivered to people in Yen Bai and Thai Nguyen. Most of the households have elderly people and children who need to improve their health and nutrition during this period.
In addition, doctors and pharmacists of An Khang General Clinic (Vinamilk) in Ho Chi Minh City have also prepared 600 family medicine bags to send to people in northern provinces such as Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang... The medicine bags include basic necessary medicines, along with specific and clear instructions for people to use.
