The disaster has passed for a few days, but Mr. Lo Van Bun's family in La 2 village is still in shock, because the hail, thunderstorms, and strong winds at around 10 pm on May 10 caused his family's stilt house to collapse completely in just a few minutes. Furniture such as: TV, refrigerator, pots and pans... were damaged. The family of 4 was lucky to escape. With no place to stay, his family was supported by the commune to build a temporary shelter. Seeing the scene of the devastated house, Mr. Bun's face was filled with fatigue and anxiety.
Mr. Bun said: “Due to natural disasters, my family lost all their houses and properties. Life is difficult because the main income depends on 1,000m2 of rice fields and 500m2 of corn, which are also damaged. The family hopes to soon receive support from the State to have stable housing.”
Similarly, the family of Mr. Luong Van Xuong in Nga Ba village also fell into a difficult situation when the stilt house worth more than 100 million VND was completely destroyed by the tornado. All household items were damaged. The local government also quickly mobilized forces to support the family in building a temporary shelter, and at the same time, counted the damage to promptly propose support measures.
During the recent natural disaster, Muong Kim commune suffered heavy damage to housing, infrastructure and agricultural production. According to preliminary statistics, the whole commune had 402 damaged houses, of which 9 houses collapsed completely, 5 houses had their roofs completely blown off and 388 houses had their roofs partially blown off. The total damage to housing was estimated at over 3.2 billion VND. The commune's agricultural sector was also seriously affected. Specifically, 75 hectares of crops were lost, nearly 50 hectares of corn were crushed, with a total damage of about 1 billion VND. In addition, many educational institutions such as Ban Lut kindergarten, Chieng Ban primary school, Ban La secondary school had damaged walls, the roofs of teachers' offices were blown off; some equipment (computers, printers) were soaked with water, at high risk of damage.
The house collapsed, Mr. Lo Van Bun's family in La 2 village received support from Muong Kim commune to build a temporary shelter.
Immediately after the disaster, local authorities and Party committees promptly deployed response measures. Local forces were mobilized to inspect and count the damage, and coordinate with mass organizations to support people in overcoming the initial consequences. Schools were directed to temporarily repair the damage to ensure teaching activities. Traffic routes were also quickly cleared to ensure people's travel.
Mr. Lo Quyet Thang - Chairman of Muong Kim Commune People's Committee said: "The commune is actively directing the villages to review the damage, make a list of timely support and propose plans to help people stabilize their lives. The immediate priority is to repair houses, ensuring that people do not go hungry or lack shelter. For 9 households (37 people) whose houses were completely collapsed, the commune has supported the construction of temporary shelters and provided emergency rice at a rate of 15kg/person/month".
Currently, Muong Kim commune has made a proposal to the State to support funding for severely damaged households to rebuild their houses. In particular, the villages of Luot, La 1, La 2 that lost all their crops have requested superiors to support famine relief, helping people stabilize their lives soon. At the same time, calling on organizations, individuals, and philanthropists inside and outside the province to join hands to support and help the damaged households. This is a practical resource, contributing to helping Muong Kim commune gradually restore production and stabilize life.
With a proactive, urgent, and united spirit, the government and people of Muong Kim commune are making efforts to gradually overcome the consequences of natural disasters, determined not to let anyone fall into hunger or have no safe place to live after the disaster.
