Efforts to find 4-month-old baby suspected of falling into canal

On the morning of October 20, An Bien Commune Police (An Giang Province) said that the authorities are urgently searching for a 4-month-old baby suspected of falling into the Xeo Ro canal, in Hamlet 2, An Bien Commune.

According to initial information, at around 6:30 a.m. the same day, Ms. Le Thi Kieu (26 years old, residing in Hamlet 2, An Bien Commune) woke up and discovered that her 4-month-old son was missing. Ms. Kieu's family's house is a stilt house built along the Xeo Ro canal, so it was suspected that the baby might have fallen into the canal. Upon receiving the report, An Bien Commune Police coordinated with the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Team of U Minh Thuong area to mobilize divers and specialized vehicles to urgently carry out the search.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Ngoc Can, Deputy Chief of An Bien Commune Police, the search was difficult because the area where the incident occurred was right at a river intersection, with strong currents, while the child was still very young. Local authorities were present at the scene to direct and encourage the family. It is known that Ms. Kieu's family has 5 children, living in difficult circumstances, living in a temporary house. She sells lottery tickets, her husband goes to sea. The missing child is the youngest child in the family.

The cause of the incident is being verified and clarified by the authorities.
