Efforts to eliminate signal dips

Tuyen Quang is one of the localities facing many difficulties in mobile phone coverage and internet connectivity. In order to bring internet and modern telecommunication services to people in remote areas, the province has actively invested in infrastructure to expand connectivity and eliminate "dead zones" (areas with weak signal).

The BTS station in Pac Cung village, Thuong Nong commune, has recently been constructed with investment.

Pac Cung is a disadvantaged village in Thuong Nong commune. The village has 45 households with 368 inhabitants. A few years ago, it was a village with no mobile phone signal, and residents faced many difficulties as their mobile phones couldn't connect to the network and the internet was inaccessible. But now, their lives have changed significantly.

Comrade Ban Van Tranh, Secretary of the Pac Cung village Party branch, shared: "Previously, whenever there was an event in the village or commune, I had to go to each house to inform them. If it was urgent, I had to climb a hill to get a signal to make a phone call. Now it's different; everyone in the village can use mobile phones anywhere, so my work and everyone else's work in the village is much easier. This is thanks to the efforts of the commune, the province, and telecommunications companies in eliminating the 'dead zone' for the village."

According to residents of Pac Cung village, in August 2025, telecommunications companies in the area surveyed and installed a mobile base transceiver station (BTS). After two months of construction, the Pac Cung village BTS officially went into operation. Mr. Ban Van Vanh, from Pac Cung village, Thuong Nong commune, said: "Since the introduction of 4G network, I bought a smartphone to make calls using Zalo and Facebook. With the internet, I also learn about farming and livestock raising through my phone to apply to the development of my family's economy . Thanks to broadband mobile coverage, trade and economic development for the villagers have become more convenient."

After years without mobile phone coverage, dozens of Mong ethnic minority households in Sung Lung village, Ta Lung commune, now have the opportunity to use communication services, not only on 3G but also connecting via the internet with 4G technology. Viettel Tuyen Quang has deployed and installed a mobile base station (BTS), affirming the unit's efforts in providing telecommunications and mobile broadband coverage in particularly disadvantaged communes in the province.

According to Mr. Le Duy Huy, Head of Infrastructure Department of Viettel Tuyen Quang , since the beginning of the year, Viettel Tuyen Quang has installed 130 3G and 4G mobile base stations to expand coverage, including more than 70 stations serving villages and hamlets without mobile signal, contributing to eliminating signal gaps and overcoming weak signal issues in remote and isolated areas.

According to surveys by telecommunications companies, the majority of areas with no signal coverage or "dead zones" in the province are currently disadvantaged areas lacking electricity, with complex terrain, difficult transportation infrastructure, and low population density; the demand for telecommunications and internet services is not high, resulting in very low revenue in these areas. Meanwhile, the cost of investing in infrastructure to provide telecommunications and internet services is quite high, ranging from approximately 500 million to 1 billion VND per BTS station; and about 500 million VND per kilometer of transmission line. Therefore, in investing in networks to eliminate "dead zones," businesses need to review and assess the current situation and balance resources to ensure the fulfillment of local political tasks and the production and business activities of the enterprises.

Comrade Pham Ninh Thai, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, stated: Eliminating areas with no mobile signal and addressing villages lacking fixed broadband internet access has been identified by the Provincial People's Committee as the number one priority in infrastructure development for digital transformation. Therefore, the Department has reviewed a detailed list of each village; directed, coordinated, and assigned tasks to telecommunications enterprises in the area; and worked alongside them to overcome difficulties and create the most favorable conditions in terms of policies and mechanisms to support infrastructure development. However, due to the mountainous terrain, 273 villages in the province still have no or weak mobile signal coverage.
