Fragrant flowers in life

In November, teachers across the country are once again honored and appreciated. In their journey of "sowing knowledge" and "nurturing people" in this land...

One winter morning in Nam So commune, the cold had already crept into the mountains and forests. Before dawn, the teachers at the preschools were already in class, preparing for a new day of learning for the children. At 6 a.m., at the Ngam Ca school, the lights from the two classrooms shone through the thick fog. Ms. Lo Thi Hoa (teacher of the 4-5 year old kindergarten class) has taught at the school for 13 years. Her class has more than 20 children, all of whom are from ethnic minority groups.

The teachers at Ngam Ca school (Nam So Kindergarten) are always dedicated and wholeheartedly committed to their students.

With a genuine dedication to teaching, Ms. Hoa and the four other teachers stationed in Ngam Ca are not only leading the way in encouraging students to attend class, but also proactively researching and developing effective lesson plans, flexibly applying methods suitable to the local conditions. In particular, they effectively implement STEM/STEAM education using the most familiar methods: planting trees in the classroom, experimenting with water and light, or creating toys from recycled materials. All of these aim to spark curiosity, develop observational skills, and foster exploratory thinking in children in the highlands.

Nam So Kindergarten currently has one central school and eleven village school branches with 44 teachers. Their daily journey to school involves long, winding roads through sun, wind, fog, and steep slopes. With their love for their profession and affection for children, they have been and continue to teach these children in the highlands their first life lessons – valuable preparation for the future.

Children in the highlands are delighted with the recycled toys made by their teacher and parents in Nam So commune.

Sharing her thoughts on these efforts, Ms. Tran Thi Thu, Principal of Nam So Kindergarten, emotionally said: “Kindergarten teachers in the highlands are not only educators but also like second mothers. No matter how difficult it is, we persevere in creating a safe, loving, and respectful learning environment. Seeing the children happy to come to class every day is the greatest motivation for each teacher to continue striving.”

In Muong Khoa, alongside the more convenient school locations, there are still many schools facing immense hardship and deprivation. In our conversation, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hoai, the school's Vice Principal, shared that the Ho Tra village school is the most remote and difficult to access. The teachers there almost have to stay in the village for the entire week because the road to the school is steep, with many treacherous curves and extremely slippery. The worst is on rainy days, when the ground becomes muddy, covering not only the wheels but also the teachers themselves. Some days the fog is so thick that you can only see your hand in front of your face, yet they persevere because "the children wait for me every day."

Despite the difficulties, the teachers remain dedicated to their school and village, maintaining class sizes. The image of these preschool teachers gently wiping the faces of the children and instilling good eating and sleeping habits in the remote highlands fills us with admiration for their love of the profession. Not only do they overcome hardships to attend class, but the preschool teachers in Muong Khoa also tirelessly create the best possible learning environment for their students. Since the school lacks a library, the teachers utilize every spare minute outside of class time to meticulously paint, decorate learning corners, design teaching aids, build small bookshelves from wood and cardboard, and gather good books to create a creative library for the children to read and explore . These simple library corners, though modest, are filled with the love of their profession and the affection of the teachers here.

During their free time, the teachers design their own teaching aids and toys to help the children learn.

Not only in Nam So and Muong Khoa, but throughout the province there are countless preschools facing difficulties in terms of facilities. In these circumstances, preschool teachers are a silent but persistent force in the field of education in Lai Chau . With their passion for the profession, love for children, and dedication to providing meals and ensuring their well-being, these teachers have made a significant contribution to improving the quality of education in the province, creating a solid foundation for these young children to grow up confident, healthy, and well-rounded.

The simple yet heartwarming stories from Lai Chau reveal that behind the innocent smiles of children lies the dedication, responsibility, and silent sacrifice of those who "sow knowledge" in the heart of the mountains. They are the most beautiful flowers in this November season of gratitude.
