The incident occurred at 3:30 a.m. in the same house in Tan Bien Ward, Bien Hoa City, due to an explosion of a boiler used to cook soy milk. At the time of the incident, the homeowner was Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phuong (born in 1979) and Mr. Nguyen Hung Tai (born in 1964) was the housekeeper.

Due to the high pressure of the boiler, the explosion caused Mr. Nguyen Hung Tai to die on the spot. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phuong was also seriously injured and was taken to the hospital by local people. However, due to the severity of her injuries, Ms. Phuong also died at the hospital at 6:30 a.m. the same day.

The ward police and local militia were present to protect the scene, coordinating with Dong Nai Provincial Police to examine and investigate the cause of the explosion.

According to locals, Ms. Phuong often cooks soy milk to sell every day. The time of the explosion was when Ms. Phuong often woke up early to prepare goods to sell in the morning.
