Along with that are all kinds of tricks to make users think it's a real page.
"Ghost system" leads victims into traps
"Receiving and recovering capital quickly", "Receiving information, recovering and disbursing suspended money", "Company Processing Online Suspended Money Disbursement Files"... are fanpages with blue ticks on Facebook that show signs of defrauding people who have been scammed online.
These sites are promising to recover money transferred to the wrong account number; recover money stuck in apps, stock exchanges, e-commerce platforms; support people who have been scammed online...
Not only do they buy blue ticks to be verified by Facebook to increase their reputation and deceive users, these pages also have a "ghost system" to lure victims into traps. Specifically, in addition to old tricks such as running ads to increase user reach, using videos from TV stations, hot fraud cases to attract attention... these subjects also "invest" systematically in each comment.
For example, under the blue checkmark page, each post is always followed by a link to the personal page of lawyers pretending to be legal staff. When viewing these pages, users will not have the slightest doubt because all the information is perfect.
In the role of someone who was scammed online, I contacted the above fanpage and was introduced to lawyer Tran Th. with a blue tick account.
A surprising thing is that on this lawyer's personal page, he is using images of famous law firms, with referral links from newspapers and news sites that are widely read. In addition, on the page, the articles and images are always carefully crafted, especially the articles about "online fraud".
Or when I contacted another fanpage, I was introduced to a "legal officer" named lawyer Le Ngoc Luan. And when I went to this virtual lawyer's personal page, I was also "shocked" because all the information on it was "made to look real". After further investigation, I found out that this was a fake page of lawyer Le Ngoc Luan, who had spoken out on many channels.
In addition to the above tricks, scammers also market seeding (comments from fake accounts), create groups on social networks, create YouTube and TikTok channels, impersonate police agencies... Even fake accounts that specialize in commenting under the page are hired to create "reputation" to deceive people who have been scammed.
Blue tick trading loophole, account authentication
The problem lies in the loophole of buying and selling Facebook blue ticks or social networking platforms too easily. In addition, although Decree 147 has come into effect, in reality, the authentication is still open. Now, anyone can buy or rent Facebook blue ticks.
It is worth mentioning that there are many individuals and organizations in the country that are providing this service quickly without any proof of documents.
I contacted an individual who accepted to make a Facebook blue tick and was promised "a blue tick after only 1-3 hours of work, no paperwork required...".
Accordingly, the rental price is only from a few hundred thousand VND per month. With such a super cheap rental price and super easy process, the blue tick authentication service is being exploited for fraud. For large criminal organizations and transnational fraudsters, buying/renting a blue tick has become too simple.
Even though Decree 147 has been in effect since December 2024, virtual accounts are still operating strongly.
Even the fake accounts are invested with blue ticks, some people take care of each post and each image to confuse users with real accounts.
This is easily seen on the above scam pages, below the comments there are thousands of fake accounts with blue ticks pretending to be victims like "thank you for helping me get my scammed money back", "reputable company, support to get my money back quickly"...
A closer look reveals that user authentication via registered phone number or personal identification number is too simple. Nowadays, with the development of artificial intelligence, there are countless ways to "virtual authentication": renting virtual SIM cards online, creating fake ID cards/CCCDs via dark websites...
