Specifically, the 3 cases of suspected rabid dog bites all reside in Hamlet 3, Song Nhan Commune, including: Mr. PTL (57 years old), Mrs. LTH (80 years old) and baby NBP (12 years old).
According to the epidemiological investigation of Cam My District Medical Center, the dog running loose on the street showed signs of aggression, convulsions, and drooling. The dog bit Ms. LTH while she was crossing the street. Then, it continued to run loose and bit Mr. PTL while he was going to the temple. Being chased by Mr. L, the dog continued to run away and bit baby NBP while he was playing in the yard. Baby P.'s family and local residents then surrounded and destroyed the dog.
Immediately after being bitten by a suspected rabid dog, all three people went to a medical facility to receive advice on rabies serum and rabies vaccine.
Cam My District Medical Center determined that because the dog was roaming free, it was not yet determined whether the source of rabies infection was from another area or from another animal in the area. Therefore, the local dog population is at a very high risk of contracting the disease because during the move, the dog suspected of having rabies could bite, come into contact with, and transmit the disease to other animals.
Immediately after recording 3 cases of suspected rabid dog bites, the People's Committee of Song Nhan commune directed the commune's veterinary staff to cordon off a 5km area to organize rabies vaccination for dogs and cats. At the same time, environmental sanitation and disinfection of the area where the suspected rabid dogs lived and passed through were carried out.
Previously, in March 2025, Cam My district recorded a rabies outbreak in Nhan Nghia commune. The rabid dog in this outbreak was also a free-roaming dog, with an unidentified owner.
