These days, farmers in Song Ma district are focusing on planting crops on the fields. The district's professional agencies have coordinated with the communes to guide people to prepare well the conditions for land preparation, seedlings and agricultural materials, ensuring a successful production season.
Farmers rush into the season
Welcoming the golden rain after the long hot days, Mr. Giang A Chia's family in Pa Ca village, Pu Bau commune took the opportunity to go to the fields to plant cassava. Some people hoe the land, some cut cassava cuttings, some plant... each person has a job, everyone quickly plants to keep up with the season. Mr. Chia said: This year, the weather is erratic, the heat is prolonged, so even though we cleared the ground and prepared the land since April, it was not until mid-May that my family started planting cassava, 1 month later than last year. This season, my family planted 3 hectares of cassava and 0.5 hectares of upland rice, hoping for favorable weather for the crops to grow well.
Not far from Mr. Chia's family's field, Mr. Giang A Menh's family in Pa Ca village is also preparing the land to sow corn. Mr. Menh said: This year, my family sows 0.5 hectares of corn. My family buys corn seeds, fertilizers and pesticides from reputable stores in Muong Lam commune.
Starting from mid-March to early April, people in the district have cleared vegetation, plowed the land, and waited for favorable weather to sow seeds. People have made contour lines to avoid soil erosion, and to make it easier to fertilize, weed, and harvest.
In this year's crop production, the whole Song Ma district strives to plant about 21,500 hectares of crops on the fields. Of these, there are 3,400 hectares of upland rice, 10,400 hectares of corn and 7,800 hectares of cassava. Due to the prolonged hot weather, people have to wait for rain to plant, so the crop schedule for this year's crops is later than last year: For cassava, planting starts at the end of April and ends at the end of May, corn and upland rice are both planted from June and end at the beginning of July. Up to this point, people have finished planting the entire cassava area, sown 20% of the corn area and more than 40% of the upland rice area.
Accompanying farmers in production
To help people sow effectively, Song Ma district has issued a document guiding people to choose plants suitable for the natural conditions of each region; implement the structure of varieties and planting seasons for the 2024 summer-autumn crop. Actively promote and mobilize people to introduce new varieties with high yield and quality, drought resistance, pest resistance, and good adaptation to external conditions for production. Mainly: Corn NK6253, LVN10, CP88, NK7328, DK9901; high-yield cassava varieties KM94, KM 95, KM98-7, upland rice varieties LC93-1, tan nuong... Guide farmers to apply technical advances in production, invest in intensive farming, limit soil erosion and leaching.
In Nam Man commune, since mid-April, people in some villages have planted nearly 100 hectares of cassava. However, due to prolonged hot weather, about 30 hectares of cassava in Pung Hay, Pung Khuong, Chay Cang, and Nam Man villages have not sprouted. Mr. Lo Van Nuoc, Vice Chairman of Nam Man Commune People's Committee, informed: Currently, the commune is instructing people to replant, minimizing the area infected with witches' broom disease, ensuring good plant growth. In addition, it is propagating to people to actively prepare the land for sowing upland rice, using good fertilizers as basal fertilizer before planting.
The district has also established interdisciplinary inspection teams to strengthen inspection and management of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides at agricultural material supply facilities in the district, and strictly handle violations. At the same time, it is necessary to propagate organizations and individuals in production and business to fully comply with legal regulations, such as: Trading in goods with clear origin; posting price information and types of goods clearly to avoid confusing customers. It is necessary to propagate people to absolutely not buy agricultural materials without labels or without specific production locations; when suspecting or discovering subjects selling fertilizers and pesticides of unknown origin or poor quality, it is necessary to report to the authorities for timely handling.
Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Director of the District Agricultural Service Center, said: Before the planting season, the Center organized training courses on cultivation, selection and use of pesticides, limiting the use of herbicides, applying technical advances in production and using appropriate fertilizers to improve crop productivity and quality. Guided people to buy materials and fertilizers from reputable agricultural service companies and cooperatives. Since the beginning of the year, the whole district has supplied 4,200 tons of fertilizers and more than 3,000 liters of pesticides. Organized 77 training courses, including courses on instructing people on the proper use of pesticides.
For more than 10 years in the business of corn seeds and pesticides, Mr. Chu Duc Chung's family in Muong Cai village, Muong Cai commune has always proactively imported sufficient quantity and types of necessary agricultural materials to ensure quality and reasonable prices to serve the people in the commune. Mr. Chung said: This year's production season, my family imported 30 tons of corn seeds of all kinds and 150 packages of pesticides from reputable establishments in the city. Instructing people to use pesticides according to the "4 rights" principle to ensure effective production, protect the health of users and the surrounding environment.
Although this year's crop planting season is later than previous years due to prolonged hot weather, with careful preparation of land, seeds and agricultural materials, and specific guidance from professional agencies, we believe that people in Song Ma district will plant effectively, achieve high productivity and quality, and have a successful and bountiful crop season.
