Leading us to the lush vegetable garden, Ms. Lo Thi Thuy, Director of the Cooperative, recalled the early days of mobilizing members. Ms. Thuy said: The biggest difficulty was not the lack of capital or land, but changing the habit of extensive farming. To convince people to believe in and follow VietGAP standards was a process. We had to organize many meetings, invite agricultural extension officers to train, and even go to each house to explain the long-term benefits of clean production.
Instead of traditional natural farming, members must learn to keep detailed field diaries, from the date of planting, type of fertilizer, dosage, watering time, to the date of biological spraying and the quarantine period before harvest. Every step must strictly follow the VietGAP standards, ensuring the final product is safe for consumers.
The cooperative has invested in leveling the ground and planning scientific vegetable beds for convenient fertilization and harvesting. In particular, 100% of the production area is equipped with automatic irrigation systems, including drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation. This system not only saves 30-40% of water compared to manual irrigation, but also helps soluble fertilizers to be delivered directly to the root zone, increasing absorption efficiency, reducing labor and ensuring uniform moisture for crops.
Up to now, 17 members of the cooperative have cultivated a total area of 11 hectares, of which 10 hectares have been granted VietGAP certification. The cooperative's products are increasingly diverse, including: sweet corn, green squash, pumpkin, cabbage, cucumber, bell pepper... Consistent product quality, beautiful design, and safety have created a reputation in the market. Each year, the cooperative stably supplies 400 - 500 tons of vegetables and fruits to companies and clean agricultural product stores in and outside the province.
Visiting the pumpkin garden of Mr. Lo Van Theu's family, which is in harvest season, we clearly felt the joy of his family's bumper crop. Mr. Theu excitedly shared: Since joining the cooperative, we no longer have to produce alone. Everything from techniques, seeds, fertilizers to output is supported by the cooperative. Thanks to complying with safety procedures, income has increased significantly. After deducting expenses, the income of more than 1 hectare can reach 300 - 400 million VND/year. Now, the family has enough to eat and save, and has the conditions to take care of their children's education better.
Always keeping in mind the need to produce quality, safe products, to cope with extreme weather, the risk of shortage of irrigation water, and fluctuations in agricultural material prices, the cooperative is proactively seeking solutions such as building large-scale water tanks, applying more advanced farming techniques to reduce dependence on the weather, and actively seeking and signing long-term contracts to stabilize output.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Thu, Chairman of Co Noi Commune People's Committee, affirmed: The production model of Van Phuc Safe Vegetable Cooperative is completely consistent with the policy of restructuring the agricultural sector, developing clean and sustainable agriculture of the district and the province and is a model that needs to be replicated. The commune government continues to accompany and support the Cooperative in terms of policies and market connections, aiming to build the brand "Van Phuc Safe Vegetables" to become a prestigious OCOP product of the locality.
