Bridge of love to women in border areas

With practical actions and effective support models, the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" implemented by the Provincial Women's Union in coordination with the Border Guard Command has become a bridge of love, spreading affection, helping women in border areas strive for a better life.

At the end of 2022, Ms. Vi Thi Hai, in Puong village, Chieng Khuong commune, Song Ma district, received a calf from the "Accompanying women in the border areas" program organized by the Provincial Women's Union. Ms. Hai shared: I always take care of it, after nearly 3 years, the calf has grown up and is ready to give birth to its first litter. Hopefully, with this support, we will have the conditions to escape poverty in the near future.

Like Ms. Hai, many poor women in Chieng Khuong commune also received support from the program "Accompanying women in border areas" to develop production. From 2021 to now, the Provincial Women's Union has donated 500 chickens, 9 goats, and 2 calves to 13 members and poor women in Chieng Khuong commune.

Ms. Lo Thi Thuy, Vice President of the Commune Women's Union, informed: The Commune Women's Union regularly coordinates with soldiers of the Chieng Khuong Border Post to directly support and guide members to master knowledge and experience in caring for and preventing diseases for livestock to bring about the highest economic efficiency.

In the border commune of Muong Lan, Sop Cop district, every night, when the electric lights illuminate the highland village, at Huoi Pa school, 49 students, including Mong women and girls, come to literacy classes. The youngest is only 12, the oldest is over 50, but all of them diligently spell each letter. Determined to go to school, to learn to write their names, learn simple calculations, and gradually take control of their lives. Literacy classes like these are gradually becoming the key to opening the door to life for many women in the border areas.

The program "Accompanying women in the border areas" for the period 2021 - 2025 has been jointly organized by the Provincial Women's Union and the Provincial Border Guard Command since 2021. Accordingly, the two units have proposed 5 coordination contents; 6 specific targets, implementing support and assistance for 17 border communes, spread across 6 districts and towns.

In implementation, the Provincial Women's Union has directed all levels of the union to conduct surveys on difficulties, needs, and aspirations for help of members, women, and prioritize the needs for support first; thereby allocating and coordinating support resources to the right subjects; mobilizing the participation and support of departments, branches, and organizations.

The Provincial Border Guard Command directs border posts to advise and coordinate with Party committees and authorities in leading, directing, guiding and creating conditions for the Women's Unions of border communes to carry out propaganda and mobilization activities; at the same time, directly help women members develop household economies, eliminate hunger, reduce poverty and stabilize their lives.

In the period of 2021-2025, through more than 2,400 communication sessions, more than 289,000 members, women and people were informed about border security protection, domestic violence prevention, human trafficking prevention, abuse of women and children, women responding to climate change, reproductive health care, early marriage and consanguineous marriage... The provincial Border Guard Cultural Propaganda Team and border posts organized 63 cultural and artistic exchanges, physical training and sports attracting over 7,000 people to participate.

Up to now, 17/17 association bases have established 70 cultural, artistic and sports models, creating a space for women and people in border areas to connect. Association bases have also coordinated with border guards stationed in the area to open 4 literacy classes for 120 women and girls; registered and implemented 85 projects and tasks contributing to the construction of new rural areas associated with the Movement to build families of "5 no, 3 clean"; maintained 15 models of "Women's groups protecting border markers"...

Leaders of the Provincial Border Guard Command presented the national flag and Uncle Ho's photo to the villages in the border area.

Implementing social security activities, over the past 5 years, the Provincial Women's Union has coordinated to present over 1,000 national flags and 200 photos of President Ho Chi Minh at border villages; 4,930 gifts to poor women, policy families, and households with many contributions to protecting the border and border markers; organized free medical examinations, medicine, and haircuts for over 3,000 people; presented 2,591 warm clothes, 13 scholarships, 20 bicycles, and 135 gifts to students in difficult circumstances. Mobilized socialization to build 26 shelters of love; 1 school; 1 project "Kitchen of love - Helping children go to school" ...

Ms. Quang Thi Van, Permanent Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, informed: The program has mobilized strong social resources, with a total budget of more than 10 billion VND in 5 years. Notably, many localities have achieved and exceeded 6/6 set targets. This is not only a social security program, but also a comprehensive development strategy from economy, society to national defense and security. The implementation activities have focused on key points, demonstrating the affection, responsibility, and joint efforts and hearts towards the people in the border areas of the green-uniformed soldiers and the Provincial Women's Union.

The program “Accompanying women in the border areas”, the lives of thousands of women in the border areas are not only better in terms of material, but also more stable in terms of spirit, knowledge, and belief in the future. That is the motivation and belief for the Provincial Women's Union to continue to accompany in the coming time, contributing to maintaining border security, building increasingly prosperous new rural areas.
