People's Artist Le Thuy visits People's Artist Thanh Tuan at Cho Ray Hospital

People's Artist Le Thuy thanked the medical staff of Cho Ray Hospital: "I am extremely grateful, as this is the third time, the medical staff of Cho Ray Hospital has saved the lives of my three "doubles". That is Meritorious Artist Minh Phung who had a successful heart surgery in 2003, People's Artist Minh Vuong who had a successful kidney transplant in 2023 and now People's Artist Thanh Tuan, who suffered a cardiac arrest when brought to the emergency room, and has been discharged today" - People's Artist Le Thuy emotionally said.

She and many fellow artists visited Cho Ray Hospital to visit People's Artist Thanh Tuan. Before returning home to recuperate, People's Artist Thanh Tuan called a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper . He said: "I feel like I'm dying and coming back to life. On April 9, Cho Ray Hospital held a meeting to share information about the successful treatment of People's Artist Thanh Tuan. He was a patient who suffered cardiac arrest due to acute myocardial infarction with 3 coronary artery branches blocked with severe calcification of blood vessels.

Assessing the level of challenge that the medical team faced in this case, Dr. Pham Thanh Viet - Deputy Director of Cho Ray Hospital - said that this was an especially dangerous case with a mortality rate of up to 90% and could cause serious sequelae for the patient if not promptly treated.

The urgent and effective coordination between specialties from Emergency to Emergency Resuscitation, Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Center... along with the spirit of "dare to think, dare to do", the team of doctors and nurses brought about "spectacular" results, helping People's Artist Thanh Tuan recover almost completely without leaving any sequelae. This is also the first case in the Southern region to successfully treat a case of cardiac arrest due to acute myocardial infarction, accompanied by dangerous severe calcification of blood vessels".

Previously, People's Artist Thanh Tuan had a history of coronary artery stenosis and ischemic heart disease. On March 24, the patient began to have symptoms of cough, increasing chest tightness, difficulty breathing, requiring an oxygen mask, and severe respiratory failure.

At around 9:35 p.m. on March 25, he was transferred to the Emergency Department of Cho Ray Hospital in a coma, with cardiac arrest recorded. Dr. Tram Minh Toan - Deputy Head of the Emergency Department of Cho Ray Hospital - said that as soon as he was admitted, the hospital activated the red alert procedure, performed external cardiac compression, intubation, and mechanical ventilation... After 15 minutes, his heart started to beat again, and he was transferred directly to the Emergency Resuscitation Department in the early morning of March 26.

On March 27, a delegation of officials from the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission visited People's Artist Thanh Tuan. Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, visited and presented financial support from the City Party Committee to artists who have made great contributions to the country's literary and artistic cause.

On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong also presented money from Politburo member, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen to support People's Artist Thanh Tuan.

That was the stage in the Emergency Resuscitation Department. At that time, People's Artist Thanh Tuan was in a deep coma, had acute pulmonary edema, had to be put on a ventilator, needed to maintain blood pressure medication and increase myocardial contractility. After conducting paraclinical tests and consultation, the doctors determined that the patient had acute myocardial infarction, cerebral hypoxia after cardiac arrest and multiple organ failure, had to perform continuous blood filtration, and hypothermia treatment to protect the brain.

Cho Ray Hospital conducted an emergency multidisciplinary consultation including the Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Interventional Cardiology, Internal Cardiology, Arrhythmia Treatment, Internal Respiratory Medicine, and Internal Neurology and unanimously decided to establish emergency ECMO combined with coronary intervention in the cardiac catheterization laboratory during the day.

By March 28, People's Artist Thanh Tuan was awake, able to remove the endotracheal tube and be taken off the ventilator. On March 31, when the vital signs were stable, the patient was taken off ECMO and transferred to the On-Demand Treatment Department for continued monitoring.

As part of the team that consulted with the patient from the very beginning, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tai - Head of the Department of Neurology at Cho Ray Hospital - said that assessing the cause as well as determining the extent of brain damage will help the treatment team come up with timely treatment options and improve treatment effectiveness.

As one of the specialists involved in treating the patient, Dr. Truong Phi Hung - Deputy Head of the Cardiology Department at Cho Ray Hospital said that the treatment process can be seen as a "battle of wits", racing against time only to aim at doing his best to save the patient's life.

All efforts of the team brought the expected results. People's Artist Thanh Tuan overcame death without leaving any sequelae.
