People's Artist Trung Anh, U70, seeks newness in his career with the horror genre

People's Artist Trung Anh decided to play a scheming, calculating role in the historical horror film "The Bride Contract" because he always wanted to explore, learn, and experience new roles.

"The Strawberry Contract," released last weekend, has grossed 10.2 billion VND by September 15th. The film revolves around the tragedy of a wealthy and influential family thanks to a pact with the devil.

People's Artist Trung Anh plays the role of Mr. Tri - the head of the Vu family, who has insatiable greed and is willing to sacrifice his own children for wealth and luxury.

The veteran actor shared that he accepted the role because he wanted to challenge himself with a new acting style, similar to how he did before with his roles as a gangster in "The Judge," a widower in "Go Home, My Son," or an upright police officer in "Battle of Wits."

"I didn't want to portray Mr. Tri as simply an evil person, but rather someone corrupted by power and family traditions. I also wanted to test myself to see if I could play this role, because no matter how old I am, when I first made this film, I was still a novice," the artist shared.

On set, People's Artist Trung Anh appeared aloof. He interacted and had little contact with many young actors such as Huu Vi and Lanh Thanh, who played his sons, in order to portray his roles more convincingly.

"There's a reason for this," the actor explained. "The distance between my character and the children is inhuman. Because that's how it is in the film, I wanted to maintain that distance in real life so that you could get that authentic feeling when acting."

People's Artist Trung Anh's role is a supporting character. His screen time is limited, but he is the source of all the family's misfortunes.

"The Strawberry Sale Contract" is directed by Le Van Kiet, with the script adapted by Bui Kim Quy from the novel of the same name by writer Thuc Linh.

The film revolves around Nhai (Lam Thanh My), the new daughter-in-law married into the Vu family of Mr. Tri. She is treated as a tool for procreation, with the requirement that she bear a son for the family after many previous daughters-in-law have failed.

The more terrifying supernatural phenomena she witnessed in the Vu family's house, the deeper Nhai delved into the family's sinister and dark conspiracy.

Besides People's Artist Trung Anh and Lam Thanh My, "The Strawberry Selling Contract" also features People's Artist Minh Chau, young actors Lanh Thanh and Nguyen Phuong Tra My, and some screen newcomers such as Huu Vi and Tuyet Anh.

The film features many graphic horror elements (body horror), and is considered well-rounded, polished, and visually appealing, but it lacks significant distinguishing features compared to previous Vietnamese films of the same genre.

People's Artist Trung Anh was born in 1961 in Ha Tinh province . He started acting in films in the late 1970s, beginning with several revolutionary films such as " Hanoi in the Bird Nesting Season" (1978), "Red Bauhinia Flowers" (1994), and "Hanoi 12 Days and Nights" (2001)... Later, he participated in more television works, most famously in roles such as "House with Many Windows" (2008), "Criminal Police: The Judge" (2017), and the national father figure in "Go Home, My Son" (2019).

Currently, People's Artist Trung Anh is also a visiting lecturer at the Hanoi University of Theatre and Film, supporting and guiding many young students on their path to becoming professional actors.
