Becoming the capital's excellent valedictorian, Thuy Linh was granted special permission to study for a doctorate thanks to her outstanding achievements in studying and researching. She is the youngest doctoral student of the National Economics University ever and completed her thesis excellently.
Admitting that she was quite young when she started her PhD program, Linh said that there were times when she was worried and lacked confidence in her abilities.
“Both my knowledge and research experience were still inexperienced at that time, but I reached the finish line thanks to the dedicated guidance and instruction of Professor Do Duc Binh, the teachers of the Institute of International Trade and Economics, and all the lecturers of the National Economics University,” Linh shared.
The moment she held her "brainchild" thesis in her hands, which was recognized by the council after many difficulties, Thuy Linh called it the "sweet fruit" of happiness. Successfully defending her thesis and receiving her doctorate degree was a special milestone, closing the arduous but extremely proud research journey of the young girl.

Linh recalls the first day of the doctoral class, the teacher said: "The best thesis is the one that is completed on time." From that reminder, Linh realized that defending the thesis and receiving a doctoral degree is not the final destination, but only the starting point of the path of independent research. A thesis will still have limitations and is considered "satisfactory" when it meets the basic requirements according to the regulations, follows the correct procedures and is on time. This is the foundation for developing more in-depth and valuable research later.
Linh shared that when she first started her research, she did not know how to proceed and whether she could pursue it to the end. This academic journey was an extremely challenging "problem". Remembering her supervisor's advice "Just keep going and you will get there", Linh was determined to move forward and not give up. With perseverance and effort, Linh carefully completed each section of the thesis to keep up with the schedule, with the spirit of learning and the highest discipline.
Thuy Linh's greatest joy in the research process is witnessing the thesis improve after feedback sessions.
Tran Thuy Linh is working at the Institute for Policy and Strategy Studies, Central Policy and Strategy Committee. Linh is the main author of 2 scientific articles within the maximum score framework of the State Council of Professors, along with many research projects, ministerial and school-level topics and reports at international conferences.
In addition, she is also a young researcher who received the VinIF scholarship in 2024 for outstanding PhD students, won the Third Prize for school-level scientific research students and the title of 5 Good Students of the Capital.

As Thuy Linh's direct supervisor, Professor Do Duc Binh commented that she is one of the youngest and most outstanding graduate students he has ever taught. "Linh is highly self-motivated and does research seriously. Sometimes I suggest delaying the progress to reduce pressure, but she still wants to revise and complete the work on time," said Professor Binh.
Linh is the youngest PhD student ever at the National Economics University, and completed the program in just 3.5 years - a "rare" achievement.
Having successfully completed her doctoral program, for Thuy Linh, this is just the starting point on her journey to becoming an independent researcher.
“If in the past, during my studies, I always received dedicated guidance from my supervisor, now I have to explore and take responsibility for my own research path. Although it is difficult, this will be the foundation for developing more in-depth and valuable research,” the new doctor confided.
