Is alkaline ionized water really that good?

According to Dr. Phan Tat Khanh Duong, Head of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department - Nam Sai Gon International General Hospital, alkaline ionized water is water with a pH of about 8.5-9.5, and can be used directly without boiling. The water has a very pleasant, natural, cool taste, bringing a feeling of freshness and purity to the drinker.

According to the advertisements of water purifier manufacturers, alkaline ionized water has many effects. Specifically: helps slow down the aging process; protects the intestines; stabilizes blood pressure; increases resistance; strengthens the immune system; detoxifies and prevents cancer; supports alcohol detoxification; reduces fat storage. However, there is currently no research confirming the accuracy of the effects of this type of water.

According to Dr. Khanh Duong, bottled alkaline ionized water contains an important ingredient called electrolytes, which is good for the body, but is not a medicine. Therefore, this type of water cannot help cure diseases.

The health benefits of alkaline ionized water have not been proven. Meanwhile, some of the harmful effects of drinking too much alkaline ionized water include the risk of disrupting the body's normal pH level, leading to metabolic alkalosis (blood pH increases above normal levels), causing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, muscle spasms, hand tremors, and tingling in the face, hands, or feet.
