A prime example of successful mudskipper farming in rice paddies in Bac Lieu is the household of Mr. Lo Vu Phong, a farmer in Phuoc Ninh hamlet, Phuoc Long commune (Phuoc Long district), who earns 400-500 million VND per year from this model.
With 50 acres of rice-producing land, Mr. Phong uses 10 acres for nursery ponds and water storage ponds, while the rest is used for a rice-shrimp-crab farming model.
In 2021, Mr. Phong started raising snakehead fish in his rice paddies for the first time. He released approximately 35,000 snakehead fish fingerlings into 10 acres of rice paddies.
After raising snakehead fish in his rice paddies for a while, Mr. Phong harvested and sold them for 35 million VND.
For his second attempt at raising snakehead fish, Phong learned from his experience and released 100,000 fingerlings into 40 acres of rice paddies, earning 160 million VND.

According to Mr. Phong, to make the model of raising snakehead fish in rice paddies highly effective, he introduces water into the paddies at the beginning of May and uses chemicals to kill unwanted fish.
By mid-May, he starts catching juvenile snakehead fish to raise and release them when there is plenty of rain, which is the most suitable time.
In July, Mr. Luu Vu Phong sows rice, and after harvesting the rice, he begins harvesting goby fish.
"When raising snakehead fish in rice paddies, the most important thing is to build the dikes very carefully, check the water source, and then choose high-quality snakehead fish fry..."
According to Mr. Lo Vu Phong, if the three aforementioned steps are done well, then the snakehead fish raised in rice paddies will achieve high productivity and quality...
