Mr. Giang A Cuong (born in 1982) in Zone 1, Sin Ho town, Sin Ho district, Lai Chau province boldly bought 17 white horses to raise. After nearly 1 year of care, the herd of horses has developed well and promises to bring in big profits.
Mr. Cuong is from Muong Khuong district ( Lao Cai ). He studied at the University of Construction. After many years of working for hire in many places, in 2017, he decided to quit his job and stay home to make traditional medicine to save people with his wife in Sin Ho town.
Born and raised in the mountains, he has been attached to the mountains and forests since childhood as a matter of fate. The image of packhorses in the highlands in the past has been deeply imprinted in his mind. Since the day he returned to Sin Ho, packhorses have almost disappeared. In the past, every family here raised horses as a means of transportation. Since the roads were expanded, every family could buy a motorbike, so no one raised horses anymore. In early 2024, he boldly bought 17 white horses to raise at the farm.

During the process of making and selling medicine, he realized that the demand for white horse glue was very high. Moreover, white horse glue has high medicinal value. It can cure many diseases and help users improve their health. In 2023, he discussed with his family about opening a farm to raise horses. His family already has a 4-hectare farm in the mountains.

Before buying a breeding horse, he took the trouble to learn about the white horse breeding profession in many localities such as Bac Giang , Lang Son, Thai Nguyen... Breeding white horses helps farmers get rich, many people become billionaires. "In the past, my ancestors used to raise many horses. Horses are very closely associated with farmers in the highlands. I think the Sin Ho plateau can also raise white horses. My wife and I decided to borrow money to buy 17 white horses to raise," said Mr. Cuong.
In the Sin Ho plateau, people grow a lot of ginseng. After each harvest, people only collect the roots, and Mr. Cuong uses the leaves to feed his horses. Photo: Van Chien.
At the farm, he built a 500m2 horse stable. The surrounding area is surrounded by corrugated iron and the roof is solid. The inside of the stable is modernly built with electricity, water, and waste collection systems. "This stable can house 200 horses," Mr. Cuong shared.
The horses brought to the farm were carefully taken care of by Mr. Cuong. Each one is now plump and round. In addition to grass and corn, Mr. Cuong also feeds the horses with ginseng leaves. The horses love to eat ginseng leaves. After a few months in Sin Ho, they are now "addicted" to this ginseng leaf dish.
Mr. Cuong lets his white horses roam the farm. During the day, they forage for food, and at night, Mr. Cuong feeds them cooked bran and angelica leaves. Photo: Van Chien.
Every time he feeds them ginseng leaves, Mr. Cuong rings the gong a few times. After a while, now every time Mr. Cuong rings the gong, the horses that are eating in the mountains know their way home. "Raising these horses is very easy. In the morning, I release them into the hills, and in the evening, I just need to ring the gong and they will know their way back to the stable," Mr. Cuong shared.
Raising white horses for officials
According to Mr. Cuong, compared to other livestock such as buffalo, cows, goats, raising horses brings many times higher profits. A white horse gives birth once a year. A young horse after birth, raised for 4 to 5 months, can be sold for 30 to 40 million VND. After 3 years, a mature horse can be sold for hundreds of millions of VND. White horses are used to make glue, so they are sought after by traders everywhere. "In the near future, I will gradually increase the number of horses each year. The scale of the farm can be up to 200 horses," said Mr. Cuong.
According to Mr. Cuong, raising white horses is very easy. During the day, they eat on the farm by themselves, and only at night do he have to supplement with concentrated feed. Photo: Van Chien.
According to Mr. Cuong, raising white horses requires different care than raising other livestock. The first thing is to brush the horse's hair every day. This helps the horse increase circulation and metabolism, and grow well. It also helps white horses limit skin parasites such as lice and scabies.

When taking care of horses, it is necessary to observe the length of the horse's mane and tail to trim them in time, avoiding the situation where the mane is clumped, touches the eyes and causes pain, or the horse's tail is too long and easily gets dirty.
Another thing to note is to exercise the horse. Every day, the horse should be released for about 4 hours. In addition, exercise the white horse once a day, for 1 hour.
