Speaking to Giao Thong Newspaper reporters, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Traffic Management Center said that at around 6:30 p.m. on August 2, a car with license plate 49A-422.14 was traveling in the Thu Thiem tunnel, heading from District 1 to Thu Duc City, when it suddenly caught fire in the middle of the tunnel.
Detecting the incident through the camera surveillance system, the center immediately reported it to the authorities to coordinate with the handling units, combined with traffic regulation, blocking both ends of the tunnel to only allow vehicles to exit, not to enter.
On-site rescue forces quickly approached to handle the fire and remove the burnt car. By nearly 8:00 p.m. the same day, the Thu Thiem tunnel was back to normal traffic.
