Steadicam cameraman Le Bao Han - the author of the "absolutely cinematic" shots at the parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2 - recently had a special exchange with students at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH).

In addition to listening to the "boss" share his experiences in the field of film filming, students also have the opportunity to experience "super cool" filming equipment, including using the steadicam.

Filming a TV commercial is more difficult than the A80 festival

At the meeting, Mr. Le Bao Han said that he had valuable experiences when contributing to the recent A80 ceremony. However, he also revealed that this was not the most difficult task.

"A day ago, I had an 18-hour continuous filming session with the total weight of the equipment reaching hundreds of kilograms. While before that, I only filmed at the A80 festival for about 3 hours continuously. Filming a TVC (short television commercial) is under pressure in terms of time, equipment weight and very large technical requirements. There are shots that have to be tried over and over again to be satisfied" - Mr. Han shared.

The "boss" of "one-shot" cameras smiled and said he had broken many devices.

In the film industry, Le Bao Han is considered the "boss" of cinematic angles, especially "one-shots" full of cinematic and artistic qualities. Despite having many impressive achievements and international film projects, he is very modest.

He shared that he had been passionate about filming since he was young but did not have the means to go to school, so he only worked part-time in the production team. After working for a while and saving up some money, he bought his first Canon 60D camera.

"At that time, I didn't try filming right away, I practiced taking pictures first. I took pictures of everything I saw, took pictures of everyone in the production crew to know how to adjust the parameters, camera angle, lighting..." - Mr. Han recalled.

Improve your self-worth through skills

Sharing with students, Mr. Han frankly said that his filming fee increases every year. This may make many people unhappy, but it is a way for him to increase his own value.

"To get a few seconds of footage, we had to set up the camera all day, testing it over and over again. The project required increasingly high technical skills, and I was getting older, which affected my health. Not to mention, I invested in all the filming equipment and upgraded it with the most modern filming technology," Han explained.

According to Mr. Han, the high cost means there will be fewer projects, but in return, he has more time to spend with his family and take care of the filming equipment. In particular, he has time to research and learn more about new filming technologies in the world .

After the exchange, many students were inspired by the profession.

Mr. Han hopes that young people who choose to pursue this career should not be afraid of difficulties. After graduating from university, do not rush to set a goal of earning a lot of money but should spend more time learning practically.

Thuy Trang, a final year student majoring in multimedia communications at HUTECH University, excitedly said that this was the most useful sharing session about the profession that she had ever attended. Trang remembered every detail clearly and was inspired by the profession.
