The turmoil at OpenAI following the sudden departure and almost immediate return of CEO Sam Altman has not had any impact on the company's revenue.
Chatbot developer ChatGPT earned $1.6 billion in 2023, marking an increase of more than 20% compared to October 2023, according to a new financial report released by OpenAI.
Since ChatGPT officially launched in February 2023, OpenAI has maintained steady revenue growth as user signups have increased. Latest data shows the company generating monthly revenue of $130 million.
What’s even more impressive is the revenue increase compared to fiscal year 2022. According to official statistics, OpenAI’s revenue in 2022 was just $28 million. This means the company’s revenue growth in 2023 is a whopping 5,700%.
The meteoric growth is likely to attract investor interest as OpenAI is looking to launch a new funding round at a target valuation of $100 billion or more, according to Bloomberg.
Details about the company’s potential new partners have not been released. It’s worth noting that OpenAI has not disclosed exactly how much it’s spending to maintain ChatGPT.
Additionally, OpenAI is reportedly very ambitious about entering the custom chip market and is reportedly in talks with Abu Dhabi-based G42 to raise $8-10 billion for the plan.
If the $100 billion funding round goes through as planned, OpenAI will become the second most valuable startup in the US after billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX, according to research firm CB Insights.
