Thanks to the care of tea with organic fertilizer made from chicken eggs, the quality of tea of La Bang Tea Cooperative is increasingly high and is favored by consumers.

That simple idea contains a lot of agricultural knowledge and dozens of failed experiments by Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of La Bang Tea Cooperative.

Ms. Hai is the one who brought La Bang tea products to domestic and foreign markets. Now, once again, she is a pioneer in applying a new but effective organic fertilizer formula.

Ms. Hai said: During an organic tea production training course in 2022, the teacher suggested a recipe that could utilize locally available ingredients to compost into organic fertilizer to save costs. The recipe includes ripe bananas, crushed soybeans, raw chicken eggs, and honey - all of which are easy to find in the countryside, all mixed with probiotics and left to ferment for 2 to 3 weeks. This mixture is then diluted and watered at the base of the tea plant or sprayed onto the tea leaves.

From the initial trial area, seeing the effectiveness of the new organic fertilizer, Ms. Hai expanded the application area to more than 5 hectares. Up to now, this method has also spread to all members of La Bang Tea Cooperative and hundreds of other associated farming households.

Not only in La Bang, but also in neighboring tea growing areas such as Phu Thinh and Phu Lac communes, people have come to learn and use this composted organic fertilizer in their family tea gardens.

In Phu Thinh 1 hamlet, Phu Thinh commune, Mr. Tran Van Toan, a person with many years of experience growing tea, confided: At first, I was skeptical when I tried the fertilizer made from bananas and chicken eggs, but after a few batches of tea, I saw clear results. The tea leaves are darker green, shinier, have fewer pests than before, the buds are even, thicker and longer. Especially when the tea is roasted, the natural aroma is clear, the water is clear and green but has a sweet aftertaste. Many customers come to my house to drink tea, knowing that I do not use chemical fertilizers, so they trust me and order regularly.

Not only does this new fertilizer bring clear results in growth and quality, it also helps farmers save about 20% of costs compared to using manure.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung, in Rung Van hamlet, La Bang commune, said: Before, I had to ask for or buy manure, which took a long time to compost and had a strong odor. Now the ingredients are available in the kitchen or in the garden, so I can make fertilizer that is both easy and safe.

According to local farmers, the use of organic fertilizers contributes to protecting the environment and their own health. The air in the tea hills is more airy and fresh. From innovations in organic tea production, the story of tea growing in La Bang is gradually changing towards a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable direction. And most importantly, the people here are the ones who are writing a new page for traditional tea trees with their initiative, creativity, and love for the land and the profession.

Mr. Dang Thanh Tung, Chairman of La Bang Commune People's Committee, commented: We highly appreciate the organic fertilizer model from bananas, soybeans, chicken eggs and honey of La Bang Tea Cooperative. This is a sustainable direction, in line with the orientation of developing clean, safe agriculture, associated with environmental protection of the locality. The commune government will continue to accompany and support to replicate this model to other households, not only in tea production but also expanding to other crops if appropriate.
