The appointment of Gabriel Attal comes after Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, 62, and her cabinet resigned after less than two years in office, as France prepares to host the 2024 Paris Olympics and hold European Parliament elections this summer. A broader reshuffle is expected this week as President Macron looks to consolidate his team for the final three years of his term, observers say.

Mr. Gabriel Attal promises to bring a completely different leadership style compared to his predecessor Borne, the second woman to hold the position of Prime Minister of France. While Ms. Borne is highly regarded for her strictness and straightforwardness, Mr. Attal is the most popular figure in the Government after his time as Minister of Education, a position of political importance.
