France deployed 45,000 police backed by light armored vehicles on June 30 to quell violent protests for the fourth consecutive night after police shot dead a 17-year-old boy.
Despite the presence of security forces, looting continued on the evening of June 30 (local time) in the cities of Lyon, Marseille and Grenoble, with hooded rioters looting shops. Protesters also burned cars and rubbish bins.
On the same day, looting broke out in broad daylight in the eastern French city of Strasbourg, where rioters targeted an Apple Store and several other stores.
Meanwhile, in Marseille, police used tear gas to suppress the riots after several youths threw objects at police vehicles. French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced on June 30 that police had arrested 270 people nationwide, including 80 in Marseille.
