On May 27, Le Van Viet Hospital announced that it had successfully treated two cases of genital torsion. If not treated promptly, the patients could be at risk of losing their fertility.
Among them, a 24-year-old female patient, unmarried, was admitted to the hospital with severe right iliac fossa pain and nausea. Through clinical examination and ultrasound, the doctor discovered that the girl had right adnexal torsion, including a cyst next to the fallopian tube, the fallopian tube and the right ovary.
Immediately afterwards, the team performed emergency laparoscopic surgery, untwisted, removed the cyst, and preserved the patient's entire fallopian tube and right ovary.
The second case was a 50-year-old man who suffered from left testicular torsion. The surgical team untwisted the testicle and spermatic cord, restored testicular tissue, and successfully preserved the reproductive organs. Currently, both patients are recovering well.
According to Dr. Pham Son Lam, Head of the Urology Department, Le Van Viet Hospital, genital torsion is a dangerous surgical emergency. Early diagnosis and timely intervention help patients avoid unfortunate damage to reproductive function.
Doctors warn that when symptoms of pelvic pain in women or severe scrotal pain in men appear, patients need to go to a medical facility immediately for examination and timely treatment.
