After nearly four years, returning to the Coast Guard Region 4 Command in mid-November, I could not help but be surprised by the changes in the unit stationed at the front line of the Fatherland.
The highlight of that change is the green of the shady trees, the colorful flower garden. The barracks system, slogan billboards… are scientifically planned and solidly built.

Colonel Nguyen Thai Duong, Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 4, said: “Over the years, the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 has always identified building the unit's environmental landscape as a regular task, an important breakthrough to build a humane and healthy military cultural environment. Thereby, creating a rich cultural and spiritual environment in the unit; creating the best conditions for soldiers to enjoy culture, cultivate and practice the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers - Coast Guard soldiers, striving to successfully complete all assigned tasks."

Through research, I learned that, implementing the motto of self-reliance, self-strengthening, promoting internal strength and the spirit of trying every day, every month, every year, in addition to the funding from above, the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 has taken advantage of available materials, self-exploitation, and soldiers' working days to purchase additional supplies, maintain and repair barracks, build and renovate internal roads, barracks' environmental landscape; renovate, repair and upgrade electricity and water systems, wharfs, warehouses, houses, offices, living rooms, stone benches, rockery, training areas, sports grounds, planting and caring for trees, ornamental plants, fruit trees...

The basic construction and renovation projects are invested in compliance with the planning, ensuring good technical and aesthetic standards, so that when completed and put into use, they will promote good investment efficiency and meet the usage requirements of the unit.
At the same time, the unit has organized the planting of nearly 3,000 new trees and fruit trees of all kinds; completed the construction of outdoor sports facilities, outdoor swimming pools... creating entertainment spaces for soldiers after work hours. The launching of "Volunteer Saturday" and "Green Sunday" have become regular activities, creating a disciplined, cultural and healthy military environment.

Corporal Ha Phat Tai, a Guard Soldier of the Staff Department, shared: We are very excited that the unit's officers care, direct, and organize the construction of a spacious, clean, and beautiful campus so that soldiers have a place to play and relax after training and working hours.
Or Corporal Chau Minh An, a soldier of the Staff Department, confided: In the first days of working at the unit, although I was still confused, I found everything around the unit familiar like at home; the unit was spacious, clean, beautiful, the flower garden and ornamental plants were like in a park, the fresh, cool air made me try harder to study and practice.

In addition, ensuring electricity, water, management, use of living tools, and environmental sanitation are carried out regularly, fully, and in accordance with regulations. The unit regularly invests in purchasing and building new tools and living and working tools; implementing daily and weekly sanitation regimes well; regularly spraying insecticides to kill mosquitoes, disinfect, collect waste, clear sewers, and improve the drainage system to prevent epidemics from occurring. All positions in the office have garbage containers to ensure environmental sanitation.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Tu, Head of Logistics and Engineering of Coast Guard Region 4 Command, said: Recently, thanks to the effective implementation of the emulation movement "Building and managing regular, green, clean, and beautiful barracks", the appearance of the unit's barracks has fundamentally changed, creating a regular, green, clean, and beautiful environmental landscape, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of soldiers.

A green, clean, and beautiful unit environment is an important factor that positively impacts the soldiers' thoughts and feelings; creates conditions for soldiers to have a healthy and rich living, studying, training, and entertainment environment; makes officers and soldiers love and attach themselves more, consider the unit as home, the ocean as homeland, and comrades as blood brothers, contributing to promoting a good sense of responsibility and completing all assigned tasks well.
