In 2017, I was assigned by the then Director of Hung Yen Radio and Television Station, journalist Nguyen Cong Dan, to make a documentary about the formation and development of Hung Yen Radio and Television Station, the film was called "60 years of Hung Yen waves".
The film crew met many people who have been associated with Hung Yen radio since its inception, such as Mr. Le Dinh Phung (83 years old at that time, living in Long Bien district, Hanoi city); writer Nguyen Phuc Lai, former Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hung Yen; journalist Vu Chi To, former Deputy Head of the News Department of Hung Yen Radio and Television Station; Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Vinh, technician of Hung Yen Radio Station since 1962...
Through the process of researching documents and listening to the authentic memories of the characters who were associated with the early days of the "Talking Newspaper" genre in the homeland, the film crew clarified the historical milestone: With the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu in 1954, the North of our country, including Hung Yen province, was completely liberated. Due to the requirements of the revolutionary mission during this period, in addition to the fast transmission technical equipment of the Post Office , it was required that the Party's instructions and the government's management must quickly reach the people. Only the Radio Station could meet this task. Therefore, in 1957, in Hung Yen town, the radio station was installed by the Provincial Administrative Committee, including a 50W amplifier donated by China, with 3 speakers installed at the following locations: The first is a 25W speaker hanging at the old bus station of the town (now in the area of Nguyen Van Linh Square, Hung Yen city); The second is a 15W speaker installed at the gate of the Provincial Administrative Committee, near the Crescent Lake; the third is a 15W speaker hung in front of the People's Bookstore on Le Loi Street. Although still rudimentary, it was a milestone for the birth and formation of the radio and television broadcasting system of Hung Yen province later on. Since that historical milestone, it has been nearly 70 years.
On the foundation of a type of journalism with a tradition of nearly seven decades, tested and tempered during the fierce war years, along with the construction and protection of Socialism in the North and support for the Southern battlefield to unify the country in the 20th century. Especially after nearly 28 years of re-establishing Hung Yen province (1997 - 2025), the radio waves of Hung Yen Radio and Television Station (now Hung Yen Newspaper) continue to have remarkable growth in both quality and quantity, meeting the requirements of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, Provincial People's Committee, all levels and sectors in propaganda work...
Back in time, with the attention of the Party Committee of Hung Yen Provincial People's Committee, at that time the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, comrade Nguyen Van Phong, issued a policy to establish a radio room. From December 1, 2016, Hung Yen Radio and Television Station was given its name back with the role of a type of journalism with its own unique characteristics. Realizing the advantages of this type, in the early days of its establishment, the Head of the Radio Department proposed to the Board of Directors to adjust the program framework. In addition to 4 news programs, 14 sections and columns, music programs, the Station has broadcast a number of new programs such as: Radio Stories and Radio Stage; Broadcast continuously on weekdays with time frame: From 8:30 am to 5:00 pm every day (Source: Voice of Vietnam and discussion with Radio and Television Stations nationwide), along with health information programs and programs on Folk and Traditional Music, Music, Traffic Safety, Legal News... continuously updated, attracting a certain audience.
Although there is no survey data on the number of listeners, when riding on the bus or taxi, you can see the "drivers" turn on Hung Yen Radio. Every week, the Radio Department receives many phone calls to reflect on the radio waves, the quality of the programs, especially comments on the structure and content of the programs, in which listeners like the Radio Story program and the folk and traditional music programs the most...
To meet the admiration of listeners near and far, diversify the programs on the airwaves, continue to affirm the important role in providing fast, accurate information and useful and healthy entertainment programs to serve the public, from June 1, 2017, the radio waves of Hung Yen Radio and Television Station (now Hung Yen Newspaper) have been broadcasting for 12 hours and 30 minutes every day. Starting at 6:30 a.m., with the news program and ending with the program "Minutes for Life" at 7:00 p.m. every day. In which, the "key" programs are invested in and produced by editors such as: News programs broadcast at the following times: 6:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m.; 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.; Radio stories broadcast at 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; Radio stage at 13:00 with music programs, folk songs and traditional music programs broadcast continuously every day of the week at 8:15; 12:00; 12:45; 15:30; 16:00; 18:25...
Another turning point for the radio waves of Hung Yen Radio and Television Station (now Hung Yen Newspaper) is investment cooperation, program expansion, and increased coverage. Since January 2020, Hung Yen Radio and Television Station has signed a cooperation contract with Vietnam National Assembly Television: Opening a new program 365 FM. This is a program produced in a modern radio method, providing information to listeners on the fields of economics, social security, traffic, weather, science, technology, sports... nationwide and internationally. The program is made to interact directly with listeners, broadcast live from 8am to 10am every day of the week. From here, the radio waves of Hung Yen Radio and Television Station not only expanded, the number of listeners increased dramatically in all regions of the country, more importantly, the radio waves changed both the management method as well as the working style of those working at Hung Yen Radio, that is "If a program wants to have listeners, it must be close and practical to the people".
After nearly 2 years of cooperation with Vietnam National Assembly Television, following the style of journalists "Working and observing to learn", Hung Yen Newspaper's radio waves have now gained a foothold in the hearts of listeners. With a broadcast time of 18 hours and 30 minutes per day (from 5:30 to 24:00 daily), the radio waves broadcast more than 40 columns, topics and programs/day, including many programs that have created a big buzz, expected to be listened to by listeners in all regions of the country such as: "Connect 92.7" program broadcast live every day from 8:00 to 10:00; "Understand correctly to live healthy" program broadcast live from 14:00 to 15:00 on even days of the week; "Radio stage" program broadcast at 13:30 daily; "Poetry voice" program broadcast at 22:30 daily, along with many interesting columns such as: Protecting the foundation and ideology of the party; Preventing corruption and waste; Column looking at other provinces; Land and people of Hung Yen…
In the National Radio Festival, National Press Awards; Golden Hammer and Sickle Awards; Awards for Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation, and many other press awards organized by central departments, ministries, and branches, Hung Yen's Radio works have continuously won many high prizes. Hung Yen radio workers have not only won prizes, but have also been invited by the National Radio Festival Organizing Committee many times to be on the jury of the preliminary and final rounds. That is truly an honor and a source of encouragement for radio journalists from the homeland.
Along with high awards in festivals, the trust and support of audiences inside and outside the province, Hung Yen Radio is also trusted by businesses and brands, accompanying the programs. Therefore, revenue also increases every year. That is truly a source of encouragement in the context of shrinking advertising revenue, which not all press agencies have.

Although the 4th scientific and technological revolution is developing, although the internet and social networks are changing the world, directly affecting traditional forms of journalism, the characteristics and strengths of Radio: fast information, low investment, can be listened to anytime, anywhere... will continue to be a great advantage. And so, the future of radio still has a solid position in the hearts of listeners. However, that requires the editorial board and each journalist to adapt quickly to the changes of the audience. To reach the hearts of listeners, radio broadcasters must have stories, details, typical characters in everyday life; must tell in a way that listeners not only understand, but also feel, be happy, be sad, be encouraged, share, act together... To do so, radio must always understand what the public needs and how to respond, this is also what the team of radio journalists at Hung Yen Newspaper is aiming for.
