Mr. Le Trong Giang's household in Yen Ninh commune takes care of grapefruit after harvest.
Mr. Trinh Quoc Viet's household in Trinh Xa village, Yen Ninh commune is one of the first households in the commune to plant Dien grapefruit trees on two-rice land. After a short period of investment and cultivation, the family's 2 hectares of grapefruit have yielded about 35 tons of fruit each year. The production process ensures biological safety, and grapefruit has been developed into an OCOP product. Mr. Viet shared: "After Tet, my family trims branches, loosens roots, and fertilizes the trees so that they can rest, recover, develop, flower, and sprout for the next crop. We must take care of the grapefruit trees at the right time to produce many sweet fruits."
Mr. Le Trong Giang's farm in Trinh Xa village has 4 hectares of Dien grapefruit, generating a profit of 400 million VND/year, creating jobs for 10 seasonal workers and 3 regular workers. Mr. Giang shared: "After the harvest, my family lets the trees rest for about 15 - 20 days, then focuses on pruning, fertilizing, and spreading lime. If this step is done at the right time and according to the right process, it will determine 2/3 of the year's income."
Mr. Trinh Quoc Huy, Director of Yen Ninh Service and Construction Cooperative, said: "Currently, the whole commune has 80 hectares of grapefruit with 60 participating households, of which 6 households have built OCOP products. The basic products are ordered by traders in the garden. Yen Ninh is one of the communes with the largest fruit tree growing area in the district, mainly Dien grapefruit".
Currently, the district has formed fruit tree production areas of 1,999.27 hectares, of which the concentrated grapefruit growing area is 297.5 hectares in the communes of Yen Ninh, Yen Phu, Yen Truong, Yen Tam... The entire district is granted 1 growing area code for 10 hectares of grapefruit in Yen Truong commune; 52.4 hectares of grapefruit are produced with VietGAP certification. The income value from fruit trees in the entire district reaches from 300 to 400 million VND/ha.
