Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Vietnamese National Assembly , National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue warmly welcomed the visit of Australian Governor-General David Hurley and his wife to Vietnam; expressed his joy at welcoming the delegation to the National Assembly House.

The National Assembly Chairman said that the visit is of special significance, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia; he believed that the visit would promote the increasingly stronger, more comprehensive and more substantial development of the Vietnam-Australia relationship, marking another important milestone in the Strategic Partnership between the two countries, contributing to raising the stature of the relationship between the two countries to a new height.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue welcomed Australian Governor-General David Hurley.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue stated that when the two countries officially established diplomatic relations 50 years ago, even the most optimistic people could hardly imagine that after half a century, the two countries would have established a deep, comprehensive, effective and substantive relationship like today.

Vietnam highly values ​​Australia’s position and role in the region. The National Assembly Chairman stressed that the close, strong relationship and trust between the two countries are “constant” factors in responding to the rapidly changing and complex developments in the world situation.

The National Assembly Chairman said that the close political and diplomatic relations and increasingly strengthened political trust are the basis for promoting bilateral relations in all fields of politics, security, economics, trade, investment, cultural cooperation, tourism, people-to-people exchanges and on all channels of the Party, National Assembly and Government. The National Assembly Chairman expressed his hope that the two countries will continue to promote high-level visits and increase delegation exchanges. After the Governor-General's visit, Vietnam welcomed the Australian Prime Minister to pay an official visit. The Vietnamese National Assembly also looks forward to welcoming President of the Senate Sue Lines and Speaker of the House of Representatives Milton Dick to Vietnam at a time convenient for both sides to strengthen bilateral relations on all channels, including the parliamentary channel.

The National Assembly Chairman expressed his hope that the Governor-General of Australia, in his capacity, would continue to pay attention to promoting defense and security cooperation between the two countries. Appreciating Australia's active support for Vietnam's participation in the United Nations peacekeeping force, the National Assembly Chairman expressed his hope that Australia would continue to support Vietnam in this field.

Thanking Vietnam, the Vietnamese National Assembly and the National Assembly Chairman personally for the warm welcome given to the delegation during this working trip, Governor-General of Australia David Hurley was delighted to visit Vietnam at the right time when the bilateral relationship between the two countries is developing very strongly, with many solid foundations for further development in the future.

Expressing his pleasure at meeting the Speaker of the National Assembly again after his visit to Australia in December 2022, Governor-General of Australia David Hurley highly appreciated the Speaker of the National Assembly's strong efforts in promoting educational and training cooperation between the two sides, opening up opportunities for the two sides to further enhance understanding.

Looking back at the 50-year history of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Governor-General of Australia David Hurley said that although the two sides had a difficult and distant start, thanks to the efforts and determination of the leaders and people of the two countries, the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Australia has been continuously fostered and strengthened. The Vietnam-Australia relationship can become a typical example for the region and the world to see how far the bilateral relationship can develop and progress.
