The patient is a Cambodian national and was previously treated locally for more than half a month. He received 20 units of blood, but the bleeding remained uncontrolled and the cause was not clearly determined.
The patient visited the Saigon South International General Hospital with black stools. The CT scan showed that the patient had a tumor in the small intestine, and the team immediately scheduled surgery to remove the tumor. The surgery went smoothly, the patient recovered quickly and was discharged after only 5 days, without needing any additional blood transfusions.
According to Dr. Nguyen Trung Duong, bloody stools usually indicate stomach and colon diseases, rarely small intestine diseases, and even more rarely tumors in the small intestine. "When detecting cases of black stools, people need to visit a doctor early to get appropriate treatment," Dr. Nguyen Trung Duong advised.
