Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Hong Hai recently signed a decision approving the Sustainable Dragon Fruit Development Project until 2030. One of the overall objectives of the project is to stabilize the dragon fruit cultivation area, replace old, low-yielding, and low-quality dragon fruit orchards; and develop dragon fruit production towards large-scale, concentrated, and ecological commodity production.
The specific targets for 2030 are: the total dragon fruit cultivation area in the province will remain stable at approximately 25,000 hectares, with an average yield of 22 tons/ha and a total production of 550,000 tons/year. The proportion of product value produced through cooperative and linkage models will reach approximately 70%. The proportion of dragon fruit cultivation area applying good agricultural practices (VietGAP and equivalent) will reach approximately 70-75% of the total area. The project outlines tasks and solutions including strengthening the Party's leadership, improving the effectiveness and efficiency of State management, and promoting the role of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Farmers' Association, and other political and social organizations. Furthermore, it emphasizes communication and unifying awareness and action regarding dragon fruit development. Simultaneously, it promotes the role of the provincial Dragon Fruit Association and businesses, cooperatives, and households in sustainable dragon fruit development. The project focuses on efficient and sustainable dragon fruit production, the application of high-tech science and technology, improved quality and added value, and the management of dragon fruit supplies and products. The projected direct state budget investment for the project until 2030 is estimated at 549 billion VND, including 435 billion VND for development investment and 114 billion VND for operational expenses. Dragon fruit is known to be one of the province's advantageous crops; dragon fruit production plays an important role in the province's agricultural and rural economic development. Currently, there are approximately 26,500 hectares of dragon fruit plantations in the province, with an annual production of about 570,560 tons. However, the value of the province's dragon fruit industry has shown a downward trend in recent years.
