Phenikaa - University strongly transforms towards autonomous and innovative model

6 years - a journey to affirm position

On April 15, 2025, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 775/QD-TTg to convert Phenikaa University into Phenikaa University, marking the school becoming the first private university in the North to operate under a multidisciplinary, multi-field university model, with a system of member schools and comprehensive autonomous operations.

Established in 2007 and officially named Phenikaa University since 2018, the school has had an impressive development journey. If in 2019 it only enrolled the first course with more than 300 students, then up to now, Phenikaa University has nearly 25,000 students, more than 100 training programs, including nearly 30 postgraduate programs.

It is noteworthy that Phenikaa does not pursue scale, but focuses on training quality, scientific research, innovation and international cooperation, factors considered to be the solid foundation of a new generation university.

Real autonomy, methodical investment

In just 6 years, Phenikaa University has invested more than 2,600 billion VND to develop modern infrastructure: 140,000m² campus with 10 lecture halls, 120 laboratories, digital library, sports area, spacious dormitory and ERP management technology system, a rare model in Vietnamese universities today.

At the same time, Phenikaa focuses on building a high-quality team, currently having nearly 400 PhDs, including 21 Professors and 86 Associate Professors. The school also has 12 programs that have been accredited domestically and internationally, aiming at standards such as ABET (USA), FIBAA (Europe).

From the classroom to international publications and inventions

From 2020 to 2024, lecturers and researchers of Phenikaa University have published more than 2,600 scientific articles in the ISI/Scopus system, of which nearly 70% are in the Q1 and Q2 groups, the group of scientific journals with the highest quality.

With these results, the school continuously ranks in the Top 5 Vietnamese universities according to the SCIMAGO rankings, Top 1 in Vietnam according to the Nature Index, and is in the Top 1,000 globally.

Not stopping at scientific publications, Phenikaa also actively promotes innovation. To date, the school owns more than 150 patents and useful solutions, supports 218 student projects, establishes 7 spin-off companies and 2 student startups successfully raise capital.

In particular, the model of directly providing capital to student startups implemented here is a rare initiative in the current Vietnamese university education system.

Currently, Phenikaa has established cooperation with more than 120 universities and research institutes worldwide, including leading names such as: Stanford, ASU (USA), Monash (Australia), Ghent (Belgium), UWE Bristol (UK), NUS (Singapore)...

International cooperation not only helps improve the quality of training, but also opens up opportunities for academic exchange, joint research, scholarships, and joint programs to create an international educational ecosystem.

Creating the future from knowledge and creativity

On July 22, 2025, Phenikaa University will hold a ceremony to announce the decision to convert the model from a College to a University, and at the same time introduce the Development Strategy to 2035 with the goal of becoming the leading innovative university in Asia.

The event was attended by leaders of the Government, ministries, branches, domestic and international educational organizations, and all lecturers and students. This is not only a legal milestone, but also a turning point demonstrating the pioneering spirit and aspiration for deep integration of a new generation university.

According to the school leader: “Phenikaa University not only trains people, but also creates an environment for each student to be creative, start a business, research and contribute to society. We are determined to pursue a university model that is connected to practice, innovative and comprehensively autonomous.”

With a 6-year journey of rapid, strong and deep development, Phenikaa is gradually affirming its position as a model private university, while opening a new direction for Vietnamese higher education in the context of globalization and the 4.0 industrial revolution.
