As a new Chinese box office hit in June, Lost in the Stars has already reached $320 million in just two weeks of release without the help of outside markets. And of course, no other film has dared to take the top spot from Lost in the Stars ; the film also has the second-highest grossing weekend of the year, according to figures recently released by Artisan Gateway.

Lost in the Stars is the current "king" of the Chinese box office.

The film's second weekend gross was $117 million, after earning $70.7 million (more than half a billion yuan) in the previous three weekends. And a global total of over $300 million is not difficult for Lost in the Stars .

Disney's blockbuster Indiana Jones: The Dial of Destiny (directed by James Mangold) fell to fifth place in the Chinese box office in its first week of release. The film was shown in 25,000 theaters across China but earned a meager $2.4 million.

Homegrown films are very popular in the billion-people market. In addition to the success of Lost in the Stars , the film Never Say Never by director Wang Baoqiang (who directed Detective Chinatown ), although it will not officially premiere until July 6, in early screenings it earned 25.6 million USD last weekend, ranking 2nd in the box office rankings in China.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the highest-grossing Hollywood film in China right now

Coming in at number three on the box office list is Love Never Ends , directed by Yan Han, another Chinese film. The film grossed $10.7 million last weekend, bringing its total box office to $45 million in China.

The foreign film that did better than Indiana Jones: The Dial of Destiny and is considered the best-grossing Hollywood project at the mainland box office right now is Steven Caple Jr.'s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts , which ranked fourth with a weekend gross of $3.8 million, for a total domestic gross of over $85 million.
