Four female directors are in the running this year: Andrea Arnold ( Bird ), Coralie Fargeat ( The Substance ), Payal Kapadia ( All We Imagine as Light ), and Agathe Riedinger ( Wild Diamond ). That's down from last year but up from previous years when no female filmmakers were selected.

The Un Certain Regard category includes 15 films. The Vietnamese and Southern work by director Truong Minh Quy is on the list of contenders with The Dammed (Roberto Minervini), The Shameless (Konstantin Bojanov), On Becoming a Guinea Fowl (Rungano Nyoni)…
"Truong Minh Quy is an amazing director. We have a gem on our hands!", commented Eric Lagesse, President of Pyramide International. Viet and Nam is Truong Minh Quy's third work.
Last year, Pham Thien An won the Camera D'or award at the Cannes Film Festival for his debut film Inside the Golden Cocoon and French director of Vietnamese origin Tran Anh Hung won the Best Director award for Muon Vi Nhan Gian. This year, Vietnamese cinema has new representatives from Viet and Nam competing.
