Previously, the People's Committee of District 6, Ho Chi Minh City proposed that the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City approve the investment policy of the Cho Lon Night Street Project associated with tourism development in District 6, with the highlight being Binh Tay Market recognized by the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City as an architectural and artistic relic.
Cho Lon Night Street will combine the cultural and social values of Cho Lon area with the tourist clusters of District 5, District 8, District 11 (Ha Ton Quyen dumpling street, Hai Thuong Lan Ong street, Chau Van Liem street), enriching and diversifying the tourism products of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the Project, Cho Lon Night Street is expected to operate from 6pm to 12am every day on the sidewalks of 4 streets: Nguyen Huu Than, Thap Muoi, Le Tan Ke, Tran Binh (around Binh Tay market, from Nguyen Xuan Phung street to Chu Van An street). The total area of Cho Lon Night Street is 1,510m2, divided into 7 functional zones with 41 stalls.
In particular, the Night Street functional area is divided into many areas with the highlight being the Creative area with 14 fast food stalls with full counters, shelves, and cabinets for food processing and serving; the Saigon-Cho Lon Identity area includes 9 hand-pushed stalls with a design imbued with the traditional culture of the old Cho Lon area; the Dynamic area has 18 hand-pushed stalls for cultural products, souvenirs, technology, and youth-style fashion.
The project is built in accordance with the potential and local conditions to exploit the advantages to develop tourism products with unique characteristics. This is a cultural, commercial, entertainment and tourism area with a focus on Binh Tay market, which will be a lever to support the development of commercial activities on the commercial and service routes of Hau Giang - Thap Muoi, Minh Phung - Binh Tien, Vo Van Kiet, etc.

At the working session between the City People's Committee and the working delegation with the People's Committee of District 6 on the Cho Lon Night Street Project associated with tourism development in District 6 at the end of March 2024, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of District 6 Le Thi Thanh Thao emphasized that the locality's viewpoint is not to follow the general trend, the Cho Lon Night Street Project will be carefully developed and comprehensively evaluated before operation. The project aims at the long-term goal for the night street to exist and develop. In addition, the Hang Bang canal flowing through Phan Van Khoe Street behind Binh Tay Market, when completed, will be an important mark of the night street. At the same time, the People's Committee of District 6 has also planned to arrange the water supply - drainage system, environmental sanitation and operation management, and support for small traders. The technical infrastructure system (electricity and water supply) is completely underground. With the approval of the pilot implementation of the Project, in order to ensure that the Project is implemented in accordance with legal regulations, feasible, practical, and most effective, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the People's Committee of District 6 to be responsible for organizing and implementing it in accordance with legal regulations, ensuring security and order, traffic safety, fire prevention and fighting, environmental sanitation and food safety; ensuring toll collection and financial management in accordance with regulations; focusing on inspection, control, and handling of violations throughout the implementation process, preventing encroachment and re-encroachment of sidewalks and roads, and business that does not comply with current legal regulations; promoting the application of information technology in the management and development of night-time economic activities; implementing plans and solutions to encourage and promote cashless payments.
The Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Planning and Investment, Department of Culture and Sports, Department of Tourism, Department of Transport, Department of Construction, Department of Information and Communications, Department of Finance, Department of Food Safety, City Police and relevant agencies shall, based on their functions and tasks, guide and support the People's Committee of District 6 in implementing and ensuring the feasibility of the Project, ensuring traffic safety, security and order, fire prevention and fighting, environmental sanitation, food safety and compliance with legal regulations.
