In the 1990s, when Vietnam began its journey of global economic integration, Dong Nai – a strategic land in the South – faced many challenges: unsynchronized infrastructure, limited logistics, and an investment environment not fully ready for FDI capital flows. However, thanks to its favorable geographical location and outstanding development potential, Dong Nai quickly became an attractive destination for international investors with a long-term vision.
Dong Nai – a bright spot in attracting FDI in Vietnam
Dong Nai has now emerged as one of Vietnam’s key growth poles, steadfast in its strategy of selectively attracting FDI. The province prioritizes high-tech, environmentally friendly projects and does not sacrifice the ecosystem for short-term growth. Pioneering enterprises such as Nestlé have laid a solid foundation, creating the premise for the locality’s sustainable development journey.
With the advantage of continuously invested transport infrastructure, regional-scale connectivity, industrial parks, abundant labor resources, and the policy of always accompanying and solving difficulties for FDI enterprises, Dong Nai has created an attractive attraction for new enterprises and a strong bond with many enterprises that have laid the foundation for decades in this land.
Nestlé Tri An is one of the Group's largest and most modern coffee processing factories in the region. |
Dong Nai currently has 33 industrial parks on a total area of over 10,500 hectares, attracting more than 1,600 FDI projects from 44 countries and territories, with a total registered capital exceeding 34 billion USD. Leading countries such as Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore focus on processing, manufacturing, electronic components and food processing industries ...
Mr. Binu Jacob, General Director of Nestlé Vietnam, said at the ceremony: “We are honored to accompany the country's development and are proud of Nestlé's contributions over the past 3 decades in Vietnam. In the future, we look forward to continuing to invest to create value and positive impacts for consumers, the community and the environment.”
Nestlé Tri An: Symbol of high technology and sustainable development
Located in Amata Industrial Park, Nestlé Tri An factory is a model of combining advanced technology and sustainable production. With decaffeination lines, concentrated extraction, automatic packaging systems and 4.0 smart warehouses, the factory not only optimizes performance but also pioneers in environmental protection.
Here, Nestlé has applied a circular economy model in production with advanced solutions such as turning coffee grounds into biomass fuel, unburnt bricks and biofertilizers, reducing CO₂ emissions, and recirculating water in production. These initiatives help reduce pollution and dependence on natural resources, protecting the environment sustainably. Notably, since 2015, 100% of Nestlé Vietnam factories have achieved the goal of zero landfill waste. Currently, all types of waste in the production process are brought to the warehouse for recycling and classification.
At the 30th anniversary celebration, Dong Nai province leaders presented a certificate of merit and a banner "30 years of joining hands to improve the lives of Vietnamese people", recognizing Nestlé's persistent companionship. |
Mr. Duong Minh Dung, Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee shared: " With a sustainable development strategy, advanced technology and concern for people - environment - community, Nestlé Vietnam has created thousands of jobs, contributed greatly to the provincial budget, contributed to improving the quality of life and promoting the socio-economic development of Dong Nai. Dong Nai Provincial Government will always accompany businesses, create the best conditions for businesses to continue to develop stably, expand operations, promote the role of a leading investor, and at the same time spread successful models and positive values to the community."
It can be said that from the challenging early days, when the infrastructure was not yet complete and the investment environment was still uncertain, to today's position as a manufacturing center and strategic supply chain, Vietnam's journey of attracting FDI - especially in Dong Nai - is a vivid proof of a strong transformation, full of courage and long-term vision.
Not only is it a story of investment capital or the number of projects, the above success also demonstrates the close cooperation between the government and enterprises, between foreign investors and Vietnamese workers. From the initial foundations, a generation of high-tech, environmentally friendly projects has been formed, creating sustainable economic value, improving the quality of life and promoting innovation.
During the period 1991-1995, Dong Nai actively attracted investment from large corporations such as Cargill (USA), CP (Thailand), and Nestlé (Switzerland). With support from local authorities and stable policies of the Vietnamese Government, FDI enterprises here were facilitated to invest systematically, aiming for sustainable development, thereby achieving remarkable achievements. Cargill, CP, and Nestlé are typical examples, contributing to raising the value of Vietnamese agricultural products and bringing Vietnamese brands to the global market. |
