Support to bring OCOP products to the world

Ca Mau province, with the advantage of being surrounded by the sea on three sides, along with the interwoven salty - fresh - brackish ecosystem, has created diverse and rich local specialties, contributing to the strong development of the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) Program in the province. In recent times, the provincial functional sectors have actively accompanied the subjects and enterprises to connect product consumption, improve quality and design, and bring OCOP products and typical products of the province further.

After more than 5 years of implementing the OCOP Program, the whole province has 185 OCOP-recognized products (47 4-star products, 138 3-star products) of 91 entities (18 companies/enterprises, 30 cooperatives, 1 cooperative group, 42 business households). Of which, 65 products of 27 entities are included in supermarket distribution systems in and outside the province; 185 products are listed on the e-commerce platform madeincamau.com; 57 products are listed on the e-commerce platform Buudien.vn; 80 products of 31 entities connected to other e-commerce platforms such as: Lazada, Shopee, Tiki, TikTok Shop... The encouraging thing is that from the survey results of the industry, the products after being recognized as OCOP all had revenue increase of about 20-30%, in particular, some products had revenue increase of more than 40% (shrimp crackers, dried shrimp, crab...); creating jobs and stable income for about 700 workers with a salary of about 6 million VND/person/month.

According to Mr. Tran Hoang Em, Director of the Industrial Promotion Center (Department of Industry and Trade), in 2024, the Center coordinated to support more than 100 businesses to introduce more than 200 products, attracting more than 15,000 customers to visit and shop. Supported connections, signed 18 contracts, memorandums of understanding between businesses with corporations, large supermarkets and distribution businesses, at events: NovaWorld - Phan Thiet Specialty Sales Week; Mekong Delta - Dong Thap Industry and Trade Fair; "Meet Korea" Conference held in Binh Duong province; OCOP product fair and regional specialties at Tu Son Supermarket, An Giang; Conference on Connecting Trade between 5 Central Cities; International Exhibition of Food Industry - Vietnam Foodexpo 2024; Summit and Green Economy Development; Conference on Connecting Supply and Demand between Ho Chi Minh City and provinces and cities in 2024...

Mr. Huynh Trung Kien, Director of Kien Cuong Production - Trade - Service Co., Ltd., Nam Can district, said that through support from industrial promotion capital in 2022, the company upgraded the automatic shrimp cracker coating machine, with high productivity, from 12-15 tons/month, bringing shrimp cracker products that meet the 4-star OCOP standard and 2 products of mantis shrimp cracker and crab cracker to meet the 3-star standard. Also through the Department of Industry and Trade, the company has the opportunity to participate in trade promotion, fairs in the province and the region, approach many partners, and sales output has also increased significantly. Currently, the company has connected with more than 30 provinces and cities; small-scale exports with a total output of about 150 tons/year, contributing to the state budget of over 100 million VND/year. It is expected that this year the company will continue to upgrade the remaining 2 products to 4-star OCOP, to bring the products further.

Ms. Duong Kieu Lam, Ganh Hao 2 Hamlet, Hoa Tan Commune, Ca Mau City, said: "Participating in fairs and trade promotions in and outside the province gives me the opportunity to cooperate in business, promote trade, develop products and goods, directly approach potential businesses and distributors to learn about market trends, link investment in production and consumption of products and goods. On the other hand, this helps us grasp market information, thereby promoting the application of science and technology, linking production and business according to the value chain, improving product quality and business efficiency".

The OCOP program in the province has strongly promoted the potential and advantages of the locality, contributing to the transformation from small-scale agricultural production to production in the direction of value chain linkage, meeting standards, traceability and market demand. To achieve the above results, the province focuses on implementing policies on intellectual property, trade promotion and applying and integrating policies on collective economic development, industrial promotion, digital transformation, start-up support... to create support for the subjects to develop OCOP products.
