On May 30, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province announced that it had decided to issue a set of green tourism standards for local tourist and accommodation sites.
Accordingly, the set of green tourism standards includes criteria for accommodation establishments (102 criteria) and tourist attractions (100 criteria). Units must meet criteria such as greenhouse gas emissions, green action criteria, sustainable development management team, environment, society, customers and employees, conservation of natural and cultural resources, etc.
Based on the criteria, tourism units and businesses self-assess the sustainability of their current tourism business activities by accessing the self-assessment table on the green tourism software provided by the assessment council to answer questions according to the criteria and indicators for the green tourism standards set of Khanh Hoa province.
To achieve those benchmarks, units and businesses need to provide at least one of the following types of evidence to meet the requirements of green tourism; each indicator and criterion has a corresponding score.
The green tourism standards for accommodation and sightseeing spots are assessed at 3 levels: basic, advanced, and excellent.
Then the appraisal and evaluation will be chaired by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with relevant departments, branches and localities to establish an appraisal and evaluation council.
Units that meet the standards will be awarded a recognition decision and a certificate of green tourism standards by the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province, the decisions are valid for 3 years.
According to Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, the goal of the green tourism standards set is to help tourism businesses review green transformation activities and sustainable development.
This will promote tourism businesses to innovate in business activities and protect the environment, helping state management agencies to control, monitor and encourage tourism activities to develop in an environmentally friendly direction, contributing to improving the quality of tourism and creating a solid foundation for the tourism industry to develop long-term and sustainably.
