Vietnam in the same group as Thailand at the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship

The draw put the Vietnam U20 women's team in Group A with host Thailand U20 women, China U20 women and Bangladesh U20 women at the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship.

On the afternoon of November 10, the draw ceremony for the final round of the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship took place in Thailand.

The Vietnam U20 women's team is in Group A with China U20 women's team, Thailand U20 women's team and the team participating in the final round for the first time, Bangladesh U20.

Group B includes defending champion U20 women's DPRK, two-time champion U20 women's South Korea, U20 women's Uzbekistan and U20 women's Jordan.

Group C includes Japan U20 women - the team holding the record of 6 championships, Australia U20 women, Taiwan U20 women and India U20 women.

The 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship finals will take place from April 1 to 18, 2026 in Thailand. This will be the second time Thailand has hosted the event, after hosting the finals in 2019.

The top two teams in each group and the two best runners-up in each group will advance to the quarter-finals.

The top four teams in the finals will qualify for the 2026 U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea U-20 Women's Team is also the defending champion.

The Vietnam U20 women's team is currently led by coach Okiyama Masahiko (Japan). The team won a ticket to the final round of the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Championship after winning all 3 matches of Group B of the qualifying round at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center ( Hanoi ).

Meanwhile, the Chinese U20 women's team also leads the qualifying round of Group E with 3 wins, scoring 21 goals and not conceding any. Meanwhile, the Thai U20 women's team is highly appreciated as the host of the tournament. Therefore, it will not be easy for the Vietnamese U20 women's team to compete for a ticket to the quarterfinals.

Apart from the only time they reached the quarter-finals of the 2004 AFC U20 Women's Championship and lost 1-5 to the Korean U20 Women's Championship, the Vietnamese U20 Women's team, if they reached the finals of the following tournaments, were all eliminated from the group stage.

Most recently, at the final round of the 2024 AFC U20 Women's Championship in Uzbekistan, the Vietnam U20 women's team was eliminated from the group stage after losing all three matches against Japan U20 women's team 0-10, North Korea U20 women's team 0-6 and China U20 women's team 1-6.

In the 2019 finals, despite being the host, Thailand's U20 women's team still ranked bottom of Group A with 3 losses, including a 0-2 defeat against Vietnam's U20 women's team.
