Adding Mang Den and Van Phong airports to the airport planning

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha agreed to the policy of adding Mang Den airport (Kon Tum) and Van Phong airport (Khanh Hoa) to the national airport planning.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has just issued a document assigning the Minister of Construction to be responsible for reviewing and ensuring sufficient grounds for adjusting the planning according to the simplified procedures for supplementing the planning of Mang Den airport and Van Phong airport.

Previously, the Ministry of Construction submitted proposals to the Government for research projects on the possibility of forming Mang Den and Van Phong airports.

According to the proposal, Mang Den airport is expected to be located in Mang Den town, Kon Plong district ( Kon Tum ), about 45 km from Kon Tum city center, about 73 km from Pleiku airport, about 105 km from Phu Cat airport and about 93 km from Chu Lai airport.

The planned area of Mang Den airport is located entirely on the mountainous area, with an expected area of about 350 hectares. The planned capacity is expected to be about 1 million passengers/year by 2030. This airport has a scale of 4C, and is oriented to renovate the chain to exploit beyond capacity for the period after 2030.

Van Phong Airport is expected to be located in Van Thang commune, Van Ninh district (Khanh Hoa), about 65 km south of Nha Trang, about 108 km from Cam Ranh airport and about 48 km from Tuy Hoa airport.

The planned area of Van Phong airport is located entirely on the coastal water surface, with an estimated area of about 497.1 hectares. The expected capacity by 2030 is about 1.5 million passengers/year; the vision by 2050 is about 2.5 million passengers/year; airport level 4E.

Previously, in the Master Plan for the development of the national airport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Van Phong and Mang Den were identified as potential airport locations.
