Mr. Nguyen Viet Thang shared about training children in reading habits through more than 20 years of experience working in the publishing field: “I think that, not only now in the era of information technology explosion, the "audio-visual" culture dominates, but at any time the role of reading for children - for young people is very important and very necessary. Because in addition to reading books to help children gain more knowledge, books help children access the horizon of human knowledge, help children improve their understanding, serving their studies. More importantly, reading books helps to perfect skills, personality, develop intelligence, emotions, train thinking and improve communication skills for children, who are increasingly dependent on smart devices.

Because of the importance of reading for children, choosing books that are appropriate for each age is also very important. To choose the right books for your children, parents should carefully check the content and choose genuine sources. Poor quality books can have a negative impact on your children's reading experience, affecting their language and intellectual development later on.

For young children, parents should choose books with concise, easy-to-understand content, vivid images, and familiar topics suitable for the child's age and interests.

For older children, parents can choose books with logical, clear content to stimulate imagination and creativity, close to real life such as family, school, friends. In addition, parents can also let their children read some comics, life lesson books, and practice thinking. If children like a book that may not have a topic suitable for their age, parents should give advice and explain why so that children can understand the reason.

I agree with the view that children should be exposed to books early, forming the habit of reading as soon as possible. Therefore, right from primary school, parents and teachers should encourage and guide children on how to find books and the most effective reading methods. Every day, children spend more time at school than at home, so in addition to cultural lessons, many schools today have lessons such as Reading Culture and Reading at the beginning of class, which have been implemented quite effectively. Children who read books together and have a competitive movement will be much more enthusiastic about reading, thereby making books become true friends of children.

In each family, parents must be aware of reading and pass that awareness on to their children, and share books with family members. Parents should schedule more time to read with their children, listen and answer their questions about the books they are reading. Reading helps to bond family members, and children can express their thoughts and feelings to their parents.

I know that bookcases are appearing in more and more families, families have been conscious of building libraries at home, and have their own reading areas, where there are full titles of books suitable for each age. This is truly a very meaningful gift for children.

A society that wants to progress and develop needs to value books, build a strong reading culture, encourage and spread reading to the whole society, thereby creating new generations rich in knowledge, many talents will appear, and the country will be strong and developed.

We must create a favorable reading environment, build the habit of reading anytime, anywhere, right from the family, school, to the community so that children do not turn their backs on or become indifferent to books. Thereby contributing to the development of children's thinking and creativity, nurturing their personality, beautifying their souls, and forming a healthy lifestyle.

Schools need to have more educational activities for students from primary school on reading habits, guiding reading methods, reading books with thematic themes. Set out criteria for choosing books worth reading, from which there will be a list of books to read in a school year for each grade level accordingly.

In fact, we need to have a serious look and reflection to accompany children in educating and training them to read, understand the value and love books, the priceless treasure of knowledge of humanity.
