Personal backpack water pump is the most mobile device to fight forest fires in difficult places.

Potential fire hazard

In the middle of hot summer days, we had a field trip to the special-use pine forests in the west of Thuan Hoa district with an area of over 500 hectares; this is considered the "green lung" of the urban area. Along the road leading to the pine hills or on the edge of the forest, we easily encountered forest fire warning signs, to propagate and help raise awareness of fire use among people when entering the forest. Far away on the top of Vung mountain is the observation tower of Tien Phong Forestry Company Limited with a height that can observe the entire Thien An, Ngu Binh, Tam Thai, and Chin Ham mountains.

Thien An hill area, Ngu Binh mountain, Khe Kem mountain... are key areas with high risk of forest fires. Because there are many graves of people buried in the pine forests. People often burn incense and votive paper, so just a little carelessness can cause forest fires. Many forests have not been treated with rotten vegetation, combined with pine needles falling from the forest canopy for a long time, dry and brittle under the sunlight, making them very easy to catch fire and cause fires.

Another reason is that since the beginning of 2025, many coffee shops and beverage shops have opened on Thien An Hill and Vong Canh Hill, attracting a large number of people and tourists to have fun, drink water, and check-in at the pine hill and landscape area. This poses a potential risk of contributing to a fire, when just a careless cigarette butt falls on a pile of dry pine needles.

Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Phuong, one of the owners of a water shop on Thien An hill, shared that more and more young people "follow the trend" to gather here to eat and check-in, so many people spontaneously open shops. Up to now, on average, there are 6-7 shops every day, and on Saturdays and Sundays, there are more, up to 10 shops. In particular, the area of her shop is cleaned every day before the premises are returned, and customers are regularly reminded not to be careless when using fire because it can cause forest fires.

Clean up and treat vegetation to prevent forest fires before the hot season

Take the room as the main

Mr. Hoang The Vien Quang, Captain of Thien An Forest Protection Team, Tien Phong Forestry Company Limited, said: When there is a forecast of dangerous and extremely dangerous forest fires (level 4, level 5), we organize 24/24-hour shifts at the unit's fire watchtowers. In addition, there is a mobile team that regularly patrols from 5-10pm in key areas prone to forest fires at night, so that when a fire or fire risk is detected, we can quickly approach, control and extinguish it. The unit is always ready with forces, vehicles, tools and deployed, blocking points, not allowing people to enter the forest during the hot season, and using fire in violation of legal regulations.

According to Mr. Ngo Thanh, Deputy Director of Tien Phong Forestry Company Limited, in the face of the high risk of forest fires, the unit closely follows the motto "4 on-site, 5 ready", in which prevention is the main thing to prevent fires from afar; build quick response teams in areas prone to fires. At the same time, strengthen propaganda work; arrange forces on duty on the 15th and 1st of the lunar month. The implementation of the coordination regulations with military forces, police, forest fire prevention and fighting teams at commune and ward levels is planned by the unit specifically, so that it can move to the fire site as quickly as possible.

Forest rangers re-check fire-fighting equipment for forest fire prevention

Mr. Cao Hong Ninh, Deputy Head of Thuan Hoa - Phu Xuan Joint Forest Protection Department, informed: The forest rangers and forest owners are focusing on maximum manpower to patrol day and night to promptly detect and handle fire risks. Along with regular patrols, the forest rangers closely coordinate with local authorities and people living at the foot of the mountain to proactively provide information when fires are detected. Currently, the unit has equipped over 200 rudimentary fire fighting vehicles for forest owners and people living in forest edge areas with high risk of fire. The unit also surveyed and built 6 water tanks with a capacity of 8m3/tank on Tam Thai, Ngu Binh, Dong Tranh, Dong Bong mountains - at locations that are the end points where fire trucks cannot access to get water when necessary.

Lieutenant Colonel Dang Phuc Xuan, Chief of Thuy Bang Ward Police, shared: Faced with the situation of many shops opening, attracting a large number of people and tourists to have fun and drink water in the Thien An pine hill area, the police force conducted an inspection and found potential risks of disrupting security and order, environmental sanitation and traffic safety here. The police coordinated with functional forces to organize propaganda and forced business households to sign a commitment to implement environmental sanitation solutions, ensure order, not encroach on the roadway and have solutions not to use fire to prevent forest fires. At the same time, assign forces to regularly patrol to promptly handle violations according to their authority.
