In recent years, the movement of planting and caring for cinnamon has developed strongly in many villages. Not only bringing a stable income, cinnamon trees have also become a sustainable direction, suitable for soil conditions and farming practices of local people.

Ms. Ban Thi Hong (Khoi Khe village) shared: "My family has been growing cinnamon since 2011, with an area of more than 2 hectares. Since we started growing cinnamon, we have had a stable source of income and a more prosperous life. Cinnamon is easy to grow, has few pests and diseases, and only needs to be weeded and cared for periodically to grow well; when harvested, the bark, leaves and branches can all be sold, bringing high economic efficiency."

Many collective economic organizations in Phong Hai are also focusing on developing and enhancing the value of cinnamon products. A typical example is the Phong Hai Ecological Cinnamon Cooperative, which was established with the goal of developing organic cinnamon products, contributing to increasing people's income. The cooperative is currently linked with nearly 50 households, forming a raw material area of about 500 hectares.

The cooperative is oriented towards organic production, gradually standardizing the process to create high-quality products. Currently, the main products are split cinnamon and black cinnamon, which are purchased by the enterprise and brought to the market. In the coming time, the cooperative will expand its scale, diversify its products to increase the value and affirm the Phong Hai cinnamon brand in the market.

All members and households participating are committed to applying the “5 no” farming process: no pesticides, no chemical fertilizers, no herbicides, no growth stimulants, no seeds of unknown origin; at the same time, using organic fertilizers and biological products in care and pest control. Harvesting and processing processes are also strictly implemented to ensure product quality.

Cinnamon trees are not only a livelihood, but are also gradually asserting their position when organized for production according to a linked chain.

The Party Committee and the government of Phong Hai commune clearly defined the direction of economic development associated with forests, especially cinnamon trees. After the First Party Congress of the commune, term 2020 - 2025, one of the key tasks is to increase income for people from the forest economy, in which cinnamon is the main tree.

The locality focuses on increasing the value of cinnamon trees with many solutions: focusing on planting techniques, care and harvesting according to the correct process to ensure quality; promoting linkages, establishing processing cooperatives, creating added value; coordinating with businesses to build a closed production, processing and consumption chain, aiming for export.

In fact, besides the effectiveness of selling raw materials, the value of cinnamon can also be multiplied many times when associated with processing. Currently, some products such as cinnamon essential oil, cinnamon powder, cinnamon sticks, cinnamon tubes, etc. have attracted the attention of many businesses. This opens up great prospects for Phong Hai to develop the cinnamon industry in the direction of concentrated, high-quality goods, associated with market demand.

Phong Hai is also gradually building a cinnamon brand associated with safety and organic standards. Some households and cooperatives have focused on applying clean production processes, limiting the use of chemicals, ensuring the flavor and quality of the products.

Along with that, the locality coordinates with functional sectors to deploy trademark registration, trade promotion, and promote the image of Phong Hai cinnamon on media channels and fairs.

Thanks to cinnamon growing, many households in Phong Hai commune have a stable source of income.

However, to develop cinnamon trees comprehensively, there are still many issues that need to be addressed. Currently, most products are still consumed in raw form, with low value; production links have been formed but not much, and not many large enterprises have invested in deep processing.

Besides, export market requirements are increasingly strict, requiring products to have clear origin, safe production process, and meet international certifications.

Phong Hai commune gradually brings cinnamon products far and wide, contributing to increasing the value of the cinnamon industry.

Faced with these requirements, Phong Hai determined to promote production restructuring, linking cinnamon cultivation with organic certification, applying modern processing technology, and improving competitiveness.

The commune government coordinates with the agricultural sector and specialized agencies to continue providing technical training to people, while supporting market connections and finding accompanying businesses.

With synchronous efforts, Phong Hai commune is gradually affirming the cinnamon brand, bringing local specialty products far and wide, making practical contributions to the goal of socio-economic development and improving people's lives.
