This year's festival theme, "Intelligence & Technology," explores the essential role of design at the intersection of technology and people through discussions, workshops, exhibitions, and other activities. This year's festival takes place in Ho Chi Minh City from November 13-19 before moving to Hanoi. The VFCD in Hanoi includes other highlights such as: the workshop "Future Heritage: Creative Intelligence and its Impact on Future Heritage in Vietnam," the workshop "Coded Textiles: The Future of Heritage," and the talk "Hanoi in 2048." Since its launch, VFCD has supported the national strategy for developing cultural industries, including establishing a strong link between cultural development and the country's socio-economic development. The festival contributes to laying the foundation for establishing a nationwide "creative belt" by expanding the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in Vietnam. 2023 marks the fifth anniversary of the festival and the 50th anniversary of
diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Australia. Over the past five years, VFCD has consistently connected creative professionals from both countries. Professor Julia Gaimster, Head of the Communication and Design Department at RMIT Vietnam and Head of the festival's organizing committee, stated: “The 50-year diplomatic relationship between the two countries is a remarkable achievement, demonstrating cooperation and mutual respect. VFCD emphasizes cultural cooperation between the two countries and celebrates the opportunities that creative partnerships can create.”
