Vietnam is internationally recognized as one of the few countries with a complete health network down to the village level, ensuring the provision of basic health services to all people. Our country has achieved the Millennium Development Goals on maternal and newborn health care; people's health indicators have been significantly improved. The poor, ethnic minorities, children, the elderly, the disabled, etc. are all supported to access health services.
Many Vietnamese doctors are highly appreciated by international colleagues and friends; they have successfully performed many difficult techniques, treated a number of serious diseases, approached and mastered most of the world's advanced medical techniques, such as: interventional cardiology, endoscopic surgery, microsurgery, organ transplantation, limb transplantation, vaccine production, etc.
Speaking at the ceremony to honor Vietnamese doctors and award the 6th "Silent Sacrifice" writing contest, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that at this moment, as we sit here, hundreds of thousands of doctors and medical staff are still on duty at hospital beds, in emergency rooms, or at people's homes in remote border areas and islands. There are scientists working hard in the laboratory. There are preventive medicine officers and population officers going to every small alley to protect people's health.
From the bottom of his heart, the Minister expressed his admiration and pride for the doctors and workers in the entire industry. "Thank you, comrades, for always being resilient, overcoming difficulties, being creative, daring to think and dare to do to achieve proud results. Thank you, comrades, for silently sacrificing day and night to serve the people and the Fatherland" - the Minister shared.
At the 6th "Silent Sacrifice" contest, many authors sent many entries to the Organizing Committee. The works sent to the contest increased in quantity and quality, with a variety of genres.
The characters in the works span across regions from North to South. They are currently working in many positions at medical facilities; are leaders with many contributions or simply diligent, tireless medical staff in remote areas, islands... But they all have one thing worth appreciating: a common aspiration to contribute to the cause of people's health.
In this contest, there is the appearance of the "visual journalism" - Multimedia category. In 2010, there were only less than 600 works participating in the contest, but in 2023, the Organizing Committee received more than 1,000 works.
