An Giang women proactively participate in solving social problems
Vice President of the Women's Union of An Giang province, Quang Le Hong Chuyen, said that as an agricultural province, women mainly live in rural areas and participate in agricultural labor. Therefore, the increasingly developing agricultural and rural economy has created a premise for poor women, women in rural, remote and isolated areas to have many opportunities in employment, vocational training, access to preferential loan policies of the State for production - business, family economic development, and improvement of quality of life.
In recent times, Party committees and authorities at all levels have always paid attention to and directed all levels and sectors to actively implement many policies, programs, plans, projects, etc. to improve all aspects of life of women of all classes. In particular, the implementation of Project 938 has received close attention, guidance and direction from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, along with the support of departments, branches, unions and Party committees and authorities at all levels. Project 938 is in the middle of phase II, initially promoting the proactive role of women in participating in solving social issues related to women and children; contributing to solving social issues arising in the post-COVID-19 period as well as other related issues in society.
Ms. Quang Le Hong Chuyen shared: “Implementing the overarching theme of the Project “Safety for Women and Children” and annual themes, such as: “Prevention and control of domestic violence, gender-based violence”; “Educating parents in child care and protection”; “Food safety”, every year, the Provincial Women's Union coordinates with member units of the Project to implement activities, such as: Propagating and disseminating legal documents related to women and children; replicating the model of legal bookcases in the community in particularly difficult communes…”.
From 2022 to present, the Provincial Women's Union has organized community communication on contents related to Project 938, at 50 locations in 11 districts, towns and cities in the province, attracting 2,060 members and women to participate. In addition, the Women's Union at all levels has proactively integrated the implementation of Task 01 of the project with movements, campaigns, projects, with 7,388 communication sessions, attracting 189,314 members and women to participate. Thereby, contributing to raising the awareness and behavior of members and women in complying with the law, proactively detecting and participating in the process of resolving cases related to women and children; effectively protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of women and children.
The Provincial Project 938 Steering Committee directs member departments, branches and sectors and the District Project Steering Committee to focus on building, consolidating and replicating effective models; supporting the building of happy families as a bridge to convey information, exchange and share issues on family life education, compliance with gender equality laws, prevention and control of domestic violence, life organization skills, health care, communication and behavior, parenting skills, raising, educating and protecting children and building good relationships in the family.
The models are regularly consolidated, the quality of activities is improved, expanded and attracted the participation of cadres, members, women and people. In the past 3 years, the Provincial Women's Union has established 11 "Community Legal Advisory Groups"; 5 model groups "Educating parents to raise good children"; 16 "Women's groups participating in food hygiene and safety"; 22 communication points to raise awareness of food safety and educate parents to raise good children... The unions at all levels continue to consolidate, improve the quality of activities and expand, promote effectiveness, such as: Legal aid advisory group; "Raising healthy children, teaching good children" group; Groups “Supporting children in the community”; “Safety for women and vulnerable children”; “Prevention and control of school violence”; “Women’s group to prevent relatives from falling into social evils”; “Green house” model; “Women taking care of their health at home”; “Supporting intervention and reducing child labor at an early age” model; “Women exercising”, “Female propagandists on traffic safety”, “Families are responsible for traffic safety”, “Pre-marriage” club... In addition, departments and branches have deployed and expanded the model “Legal bookcase in the community” in particularly difficult communes; maintained and expanded the model “Trusted address - Shelter” in the community; maintained the model of preventing and controlling domestic violence; trusted addresses in the community...
Identifying the work of improving the capacity of the staff participating in Project 938 as one of the important factors, the Provincial Women's Union always pays attention to regularly organizing training courses to help the staff of the grassroots Union and staff participating in the project at all levels improve their knowledge and skills, be more proactive and flexible in implementing tasks in localities and units, contributing to achieving the target of fostering professional capacity, expertise and skills to support women in solving priority social issues of the project. In addition, the requirement to improve the capacity of the staff is one of the factors contributing to ensuring the success of the Project.
From 2022 to present, the Provincial Women's Union has organized the online contest "Propaganda and education for parents in child care, protection and prevention of domestic violence"; the contest "Excellent propagandists participating in solving some social issues related to women". Every year, the Provincial Women's Union and the Department of Justice coordinate to organize the contest "Propaganda skills, dissemination of legal documents and participation in solving social issues related to women". The District Project Steering Committee organizes training courses, competitions... to improve the capacity of cadres participating in implementing the project in the locality. In addition, the unions at all levels have done a good job of protecting the legitimate rights and interests of women and children in the locality, actively participating in consulting, conciliating and resolving complaints and denunciations related to women and children; Maintain effective legal consultancy activities to promptly advise and support cases of infringement of women's rights and interests.
During the implementation process, the Provincial Women's Union, as the Standing Committee of the Project Steering Committee, conducted inspections and assessments to grasp the difficulties and advantages in the advisory work of the District Women's Union with the People's Committee at the same level to implement Project 938; the organization of the implementation of the indicators and activities of the Project implementation in conjunction with the local plans and programs; the establishment, consolidation and maintenance of good models and effective methods in implementing the Project. Thereby, absorbing proposals and recommendations for solutions to effectively implement the Project in the coming time.
Vice President of the An Giang Provincial Women's Union Quang Le Hong Chuyen said that in the 2025 - 2027 period, the Provincial Steering Committee of Project 938 will continue to direct member departments, branches and sectors to focus on intervention contents and support activities suitable to the subjects, localities, cultural characteristics and socio-economic conditions of each locality.
Women's Unions at all levels continue to promote their role as the Standing Agency of Project 938 in advising the People's Committees at the same level to implement the Project locally, ensuring adherence to the set objectives. Strengthen propaganda work focusing on key areas, remote areas, ethnic minority areas, and groups of women and girls in special circumstances. Continue to organize training and capacity building for staff performing the task of supporting women in solving related social issues.
In addition, promote research and propose feasible solutions; effectively promote existing models to improve the quality of support and protection of the legitimate rights and interests of women, especially women and children who have suffered domestic violence, abuse and trafficking. Strengthen inspection, supervision, guidance and evaluation of the results of propaganda, education, mobilization and support activities for women to participate in solving a number of social issues related to women...
Looking back at the half-way point of implementing Project 938 in An Giang province, it can be affirmed that: The Project not only contributes to effectively solving urgent social problems, but more importantly, it has awakened the potential, aroused the internal strength and promoted the role of women in building a safe and progressive society. With the foundation of the achieved results, along with the consensus and drastic participation of the entire political system and society, it is believed that Project 938 will be increasingly effective in the coming time, aiming at the highest goal of "leaving no one behind". The achievements of the project promise to be an important step forward on the journey to building a humane society.
