American women follow Korean feminist movement to overthrow Trump

After Mr. Trump declared victory in the US presidential election, the 4B feminist movement originating from Korea suddenly emerged across the United States.

According to Al Jazeera, Donald Trump - who has made a series of statements considered sexist and is involved in a lawsuit for sexual abuse as well as his anti-abortion stance - declared victory in the recent US presidential election, which made many women unhappy.

The 4B feminist movement also suddenly emerged across America.

What is the 4B feminist movement?

The 4B Movement initially appeared on South Korean social media sites, calling for the rights of the "weaker sex", opposing sexism and protesting the current state of gender inequality in South Korean society since late 2010.

The name 4B is based on four principles: Bihon (no marriage), Bichulsan (no children), Biyeonae (no dating), and Bisekseu (no sex).

Immediately after Mr. Trump declared victory on November 6, young women used social media platforms such as TikTok and X to call on and encourage women in the US to stand up for their rights, based on the 4B movement in Korea.

A CNN poll found that Trump won 46% of the vote among women, while Kamala Harris won 54%. Harris, on the other hand, won 43.5% of the vote among men, while Trump won 56.5%.

The girls said they felt disappointed that young men voted for a candidate who did not respect women's bodily freedoms.

According to Al Jazeera, the situation got worse when some Trump supporters such as far-right political activist Nick Fuentes posted sexist messages on X. Specifically, this activist posted on social media the status "Your body, my choice" causing much controversy.

This status line is said to mock the slogan “My body, my choice” of feminists who fight for women's self-determination and reproductive freedom.

Far-right activists and politicians argue that abortion is murder, a moral evil.

Feminism loses battle on economic issues

During the US presidential campaign, abortion rights were the most discussed topic. Democratic candidate Harris said that abortion is a major issue in American society and Democratic Party members also believed that emphasizing abortion rights would attract female voters to vote for Ms. Harris.

In contrast, for most American voters, economic issues such as inflation, unemployment and the cost of living are of concern.

Mr. Trump declared that after being elected president, he would veto the federal abortion bill and leave the issue to each state to decide for itself.

Women's rights groups fear that Republicans - who control the Senate, the Supreme Court and will likely take control of the House of Representatives in the near future - will pressure Trump to push for the abortion ban to become federal law.

Trump's controversial times

In May 2023, a US jury found Mr. Trump liable for sexually abusing journalist and writer E Jean Carroll in the 1990s. Mr. Trump also lost points with female voters when he made a series of controversial statements about women, including a heated argument with Ms. Harris. In addition, female voters were not satisfied with Mr. Trump's love affairs. In April 2023, Mr. Trump was charged with a total of 34 counts of "falsifying business records" related to a conspiracy to pay "hush money" to two women - including actress Daniels and model McDougal - out of fear that this affair would affect his 2016 presidential campaign.
